Another quick question to the Polaris enthusiasts. The 1995 SLT750 (or
1994, from what I read) or the 1996 SLT700, which one would be faster ?

( Both just stock machines ).

Thanks in advance. E-Mail

The 95 SLT 750 might run a little faster, but for hole shots and pulling,
the 96 SLT 700 is far superior. I have ridden both.

I also own a 96 SL900, the machine to buy. It is almost all stock and the
speedo shows 68.1 MPH. I know speedos are not accurate, but it will
consistantly run 66, 67.

As you probably know, the 1995 SLT750 has a 744cc 80hp triple-cylinder
engine. The 1996 SLT700 has a 700cc 80hp two-cylinder engine. A friend
of mine has a 1995 SLT750 and my '96 SLT780 is a bit quicker and faster
than it. As for the SLT700, I'd imagine it's pretty quick (I know it's
fast... it posted the highest speed in the low-buck 3-person runabout
comparison in a test by Personal Watercraft Illustrated a few months
ago. Incidentally, it also won first place overall, too.)

Hope this helps!

I have rode both (although about a year in between rides). It seems as
though the SLT750 was a little quicker. Top speed seemed about the same.

I just bought a SLT780 after selling my '95 SL750. One question for you.
The bought runs OK as you gradually increase the throttle. Then around
4000 RPM, there is a sudden surge of power. Dealer says either the carbs
need to be reset or the timing is advancing at this time. He says there
may not be much to do about it. I don't like it a bit. Any clues?

I, too, just purchased the SLT780. During the break-in period, I too,
experienced the same results. However, the craft now has 18 hr.s and
the issue has gone away???? It just vanished over night. Maybe it has
something to do with the break-in??? Please let me know what you find
out.

Now I'm beginning to experience another issue. When I start the PWC
after it's been stored for a couple of days, it idles very low...to the
point that it cuts off. Only after letting it warm up, and I ride it
for awhile does it idle normal (1100 - 1300 rpms). Have you seen this?

I also have a new slt 780. It too had the 4000 rpm surge. The
craft has 20 hrs and it seems to be getting better. The dealer
put in some sort of heavy break-in oil intially. Perhaps this
and the break in are the reason. I plan on discussing it with him
when I take it back for the 20 hr check. The idle issue I sort of
have. When I've been riding then turn it off for a while (20
minutes). Upon restart it sometimes idles so slow it cuts off -
but this only lasts 30 seconds. I believe a minor idle adjust
will fix this. We'll see.

Mine does almost the same thing. At about 4000-4200 it seems to hit a
dead spot. I can feed it alittle gas and almost no response. But I hit
a point and it takes off like crazy. It seems to me that this is where
the cross over between the low and high speed jets are. I think it is
part of this engine.

It's good to know it went away. I only have about 6 hours on it. Mine does
have a little problem at idle but only during the first few minutes.
