When can I renew?

You can renew up to:

  • 1 year before your license expires. It usually expires on your birthday.
  • or
  • 60 days after it's expired. We won’t charge a late fee, but you could get a ticket or fine from law enforcement.

If your license expired over:

For military personnel

You don't need to renew during the term of your military service if you're:

  • A member of the armed forces or National Guard on active duty.
  • A reservist called to duty for 180 days or more.
  • The spouse or dependent of an active member of the military.

Fees

A standard license costs $9 per year to renew. You may renew for 6 ($54) or 8 years ($72). Calculate your fees based on:

  • Your endorsements.
  • Whether you’re upgrading to an enhanced card.
  • Whether you’re renewing late.
  • Whether you choose the 6- or 8-year renewal option.

When you get your driver license or ID card, we may ask if you’re a twin or triplet. Answering this question is voluntary.

I received a renewal notice or other correspondence for someone who's deceased, what should I do?

The death certificate is issued by the county medical examiner or coroner. After it's issued, the Department of Health notifies us - this can take several months. As soon as we receive the notice, we'll update their record. This should stop all future correspondence.

You don't have to return the person's license or ID card. You can keep it as a memento if you wish or discard it.

Before you begin…

  1. Review the eligibility guidelines below to determine whether you will be able to renew your DL/ID online.

  2. If you do not already have a DMV online account, you will be asked to create an account.

  3. Be prepared to pay a renewal fee in the amount shown on your renewal notice.

    • All credit/debit card transactions include an additional 1.95% payment processing fee.
    • If paying directly from your bank account, there are no additional fees.

What to expect:

You should receive your new DL/ID card in the mail within two to four weeks. If you have not received your DL/ID card after 60 days, call 1-800-777-0133 to check the status.

If you are not the person named on the renewal notice.

If you want to change your name, address or gender identity, must be done prior to renewing online. An Address should be updated at least 5 days prior to renewing. Name or gender identity changes must be processed at your local DMV.

If you want to change from a standard DL/ID to a REAL ID, Reduced Fee DL/ID, No Fee DL/ID, Senior ID, or Commercial DL.

SINGAPORE - Foreigners will be able to renew and replace their Singapore qualified driving licences online from next Monday (Dec 9) onwards, the police said on Friday.

Currently, only Singaporeans and permanent residents are able to do so online.

From Monday, foreigners can apply to renew and replace the driving licences through the police e-services portal at www.police.gov.sg/e-services or the Police @ SG mobile application using their SingPass accounts.

Those who do not have SingPass accounts can use their foreign identification number and date of birth.

The Traffic Police will also no longer accept over-the-counter applications for the renewal or replacement of qualified driving licences. The only exception is for the conversion of foreign driving licences into Singapore qualified driving licences.

Those who intend to convert their foreign driving licence to a Singapore licences will still need to personally do so at the Traffic Police headquarters. This is because the authorities need to verify the validity of the foreign driving licence and other relevant documents.

Successful online applicants will receive their new or replacement qualified driving licences by mail within seven working days.

Those who do not have access to the Internet can submit their applications via self-service terminals at the Traffic Police headquarters from Monday. Personnel will be stationed near the terminals to provide assistance.
