Have a converter pricing question 04 explorer.
I am new so I will first give some background. I have creeped this site for a long time but now I need an answer. I buy 3 or 4 cars/trucks/vans etc a month and sale parts off facebook and craigslist them haul them off. I always cut the cats off and put them in a pile. I have about 50 or so right now. My goal is 100 before I sale them. I have never had someone ask me how much for the cats for their vehicle to buy.
So here is my question how much are the cats on a 04 ford explorer worth to a core buyer. All 4 of them.(guess their are 4 of them I have not even looked)
thanks a lot don't know if it matters but I'm from Oklahoma

Metal Recycling EntrepreneurOn a 04 i think there is 3 to i believe is domestic wire and the other one is a large ford.I would say they are around $100 or so for them all.

My last question I have no clue where to find someone who buys in my area. What's the best way to find a reputable person to sale to.

A 2004 Explorer should have three converters. The two smaller, round cats grade Medium Domestic ($40-50 each), followed by a Regular Domestic main cat ($50-60). The front cats are only 3/4 full, but that's how they come from the factory. They are commonly bought as a pre, and while they are actually a pre-cat, the proper grade for them is Medium Domestic. Many newer Ford pres are actually pretty good material.
Early 2000s Explorers have two small pres ($25-30 each) and two Regular Domestics ($50-60 each). Some 97 to 2000 Explorers with the 4.0 and a 2-cat system have a pair of special High-Grade Domestics that can bring you well over $200 for the pair. Only the old ones from 94-back have the junky old setup with one Medium Domestic and one Low Grade Domestic.
Probably more than you ever wanted to know about Explorer cats, but I hope it's helpful to all of you guys who scrap vehicles. Explorers/Mountaineers are quite common, and many core buyers don't grade these converters correctly.

I appreciate the great help and good answers. I loved the response on the explorers. I have had several and have all there cats still. I'm located in eastern ok. Like I said in my post I buy a hand full of vehicles a month. Scrap the Junkers and fix or hang onto the others.
