2003 Chevrolet Tahoe - Dependable and well made.

My Chevy Tahoe has been in our family since my second child was born, and although it is the oldest car that we own, out of four, it is still the sturdiest, roomiest, and better made car compared to the newer makes and models out there today. It has been our around town car, and our road trip car. It has carried my kids and their friends to and from baseball and softball games. It has carried our dog, cat and guinea pig to multiple locations. It's been dependable, and only recently required some work after almost 15 years. It's roomy inside and gives everyone their space on long trips. It has plenty of room in the back for baseball and softball equipment, luggage, pets, you name it. Truly, the only negative thing about it is the gas price at the pump. With a tank that holds about 22 ga... (more)

The main memory I have of this car is the multiple, yearly road trips my family took in it, as we drove from California to Washington every summer. We have put a lot of miles on the Tahoe and it has withstood the test of time. With my son in the very back row, my daughter in the middle row, ice chests and luggage everywhere else, and my husband and I in the front, we have made great memories i... (more)

The top positive things about my Chevy Tahoe is it's overall safety and dependability. In 15 years I've only had to keep up with oil changes and occasional new tires. I've replaced the battery twice, and only recently needed new spark plugs and filters. It doesn't have anything fancy inside, which probably explains why everything still works perfectly. The radio, the seats, the windows, etc. all function perfectly and have never broken. It's solid and sturdy, unlike some of these newer, cheaply made vehicles on the road today. It's big, but still easy for me to park and I like feeling like... (more)

The only negative to this vehicle is the cost of filling it up. It gets average gas mileage, but with a 21-22 gallon tank, it is expensive at the pump. I can't think of a single other negative.

2003 Chevrolet Tahoe - Reliable, but has kinks

I bought my 2003 Tahoe in 2013. The first year was fine, no major issues, just regular scheduled maintenance. In year 2, I had an issue with the transmission. After researching the '03 Tahoe, I found out that this is the year that had the most issues with the transmission [I wish I had done this part of my research first]. I got the transmission fixed February of 2015, this ran me almost $3K [$2875 to be exact]. In July, I had a coolant leak, luckily, it was a simple fix, but the mechanic told me that there were a lot of GMC Yukons, and Chevy Tahoes that had this same issue. As stated earlier, it was a simple fix, and fairly inexpensive at $128 [including labor, minus my coupon discount]. These issues created some set backs at the time, but considering I only paid $3500 for the truck, ... (more)

I go out of town a lot to see my boyfriend, and we usually hang out with other friends, and everybody can ride along with us [if they wanted to]. I am also able to help my friends [and myself] when moving large pieces of furniture - it's been very helpful in that respect.

Love the body style, even after being over 10 years old, it's still a good looking truck. It rides like a cloud. It's a very smooth ride, I previously had a Ford Expedition, and the ride in the Tahoe is a lot more luxurious. I enjoy the 3 rows of seats. I like the fact that the truck has 3 rows of seating, without taking up too much exterior space. I like the fact that it's American made. With the cost of repairs going up all the time on vehicles, I like the fact that I can go to a local car parts store for what I need most of the time.

The 2003 Model year had a lot of transmission issues.
