Are fuel injectors covered under chevy powertrain warranty

I took my truck in last night. It's been stinky lately and I'm having white smoke at idle. The stealer's telling me that the balance rates are bad and I need new injectors but they're not covered by warranty. Only cracked or leaking injectors are covered according to them. He says it needs all 8 and will cost $3300. Should I try a different dealer or am I wasting my time. BTW - I'm in Green Bay, WI if anyone knows a good dealer.

3300 is not too bad. Mine were done for 3121 out the door. I had the same problem as you and the dealer (or GM) would not cover them for a 2nd time as I was told. You can try another dealer and see. You might get lucky.

balance rates are what they are supposed to test under the warranty, bring it to a different dealership!

did you get a printout of what the balance rates were?

Did they ramp up fuel pressure...then check the readings....? Or just connect Tech 2 and let it idle?

I don't know what they did. I hardly know enough myself to be dangerous. All I know about diesels is what I've learned on this site.

Took it to a second dealer across town. They tested it, ramping up the pressure. The pressure held so no leaking, just bad balance rates. They also told me they're not covered under the warranty.

Your just gonna have to bite the bullet and pay, or sell the truck to someone while you can. The "warranty" is only for 7 years/200k miles. Your time is up sorry to say

did the tell you what the balance rates are? my dealership said they have to be within spec +/-4
try to find out what the rates where because if they are out of spec the dealer is authorized to do a return rate test and return rates being bad is totally covered under warranty

PM bigdaddydiesel about a solution to smoking injectors before you pay all that cash, if you aren't going to get warranty replacements...

do the injectors on a Cummins ever go bad? I've never heard anyone talking about the injectors on a Cummins...

Yes injectors on cummins trucks go bad. And when they go they take the piston with them.

Balance rates ARE NOT grounds for injector replacement. Bad balance rates do not mean bad injectors, they can mean a lot of things including loss of compression from bad HGs, unseated injector cup, cracked piston, etc. Balance rates are just a preliminary test to give you an idea that something is wrong with a cylinder. They are like going to the doctor and getting your temperature taken. Okay so you have a fever but there are a lot of things that could be wrong with you.

In order to replace injectors, the dealer needs to do a return rate test. most are too lazy or dumb to do this and will try to screw you. They have to then print out this test and send it to GM.

The injectors are not covered by any warrenty nor are they a recall. It is a special Service Policy and are covered for 7 years or 200,000 miles. Have your dealer run your VIn and show you when your truck was put into service. If it was put into service before today 7 years ago, you are not covered. Most 03s are now out of coverage.

If they are covered, the dealer HAS TO replace all 8 and do it at no charge. You should not pay a penny.

If they are not covered, $3,300 is not a bad price. Considering the dealers get a little over $300 each for the injectors and it is about 8-10hrs worth of labor, plus a few seals/gaskets/o-rings and some sealant.

If they are not covered they only have to replace the ones that you want them to, if they tell you otherwise, they are lying. But since they are in there, if say your #7 injector is bad, they might as well replace #1, #3, and #5 as well.

I just got an 03. I have the edge with attitude CTS, and it should be able to read those values. What range should they be in? I don't think the injectors on my truck were ever done.

They say the injectors are holding full pressure so they're not covered by warranty for that reason. I actually found a puller that you might know Vinny. Darren (I forget his last name) from Kewaunee that pulls with a '01 DMax and will do my injectors for $2000. That's crazy cheap so I don't know how he manages to make it worth his time. He says he's done about a dozen trucks so far.

Thats a great deal and sounds like he's trustworthy and knows what he's doing. Any complaints from the 10 trucks he's done? Question is, does that price include the injectors? If not your going to spend close to 2k for them anyway, so the other deal would be better..

That price includes the injectors. That's why I can't figure out how he manages. Even with Pensacola injectors, he should be looking at close to $1500 in parts.

Dont use the Pensacolas. Too many bad things lately.

So you are positive your injectors are bad? The return rate test usually doesnt lie.

Does it have any of the other injector failure sysmtoms.

Like I said, it could be a compression leak.

Also you could try some other dealers too and see what they say. Try that and if you dont get any luck we can go from there.
