Recently I’ve had to work from home a lot, so I decided to invest in a proper home network and signed up for Verizon Fios Wi-Fi.

I never really had any problem with it, and it was working well and fine, until last week, when it stopped working all of a sudden. I had to find a solution soon because you need the Internet to get things done. Therefore, I did extensive research and resolved that issue. So, if you’re facing any problem with your Fios Wi-Fi, you have come to the right place.

To fix Fios Wi-Fi not working, restart your router or reset it. If that does not work, check the cable connections, and relocate the router for a stronger signal.

But before we head into it, let’s look at possible reasons why it stopped working.

Reasons for Fios Wi-Fi Not Working

Why is my Verizon Wi-Fi saying no internet connection?

There are many possible reasons why your Fios Wi-Fi might have stopped working. For example, there might be some problem with the Verizon gateway router, and it might not be connected properly. Or there might be some issue with Verizon’s network.

Damaged cable and router overheating can also cause the Wi-Fi to stop working. Using the wrong router network card is another issue. It might also be because your service provider is experiencing an outage or system maintenance.

Restart Your Router

This is probably the first thing you do when something stops working. So, I recommend you do the same thing because restarting the router has resolved the issue for most of its users. When you restart the router, the settings, as well as the connections, are reset.

For that, unplug the router, wait for some time for it to cool down. Then plug the router back in. Finally, try connecting to the Internet once again.

Reset Your Router

Resetting the router is the next go-to step if the reboot didn’t work. The thing with reset is that it restores everything to original factory settings. But it can quickly resolve the issue.

The process is quite simple. To do this, you will require a safety pin. Insert the pin inside a red reset hole located at the back of your router. This will restore the router to its factory setting right away. Then, wait for some time for the router to restart. Once it does, try connecting to the Internet through your smartphone or PC.

Check Ethernet/Broadband Cable Connections

You should check Ethernet/Broadband cable at the back of the router and see if it’s hooked in right. They are the ones that provide Internet to your router. Also, check for any damage or fray. Finally, ensure that they are in proper condition.

You also need to make sure the connections at the back of the router are snug. If they are, replace the cables with good ones. These cables also suffer from wear and tear now and then. Replace them with new ones if that is the case.

Relocate the Router for Stronger Signal

Sometimes bad signals can lead to little to no connectivity. And this might be because the router is located far away from all of its connected devices. You can resolve this by relocating the router for a stronger signal.

First thing first, find an apt location for your router. You also need to ensure that the Ethernet or broadband wires can reach wherever you need them to, without being taut. Also, ensure that you understand the installation process.

The first step is to understand the connections of your router and also about how different wires are connected to it. The cables to your house come from outside. So do unplug the wires and make sure they’re running where you need them to be before moving your router there and plugging them back in.

Once all the wires are rerouted, and the router is set up at its new location, it is time to reinstall it. Connect all the wires to their specified location and then turn on the device. Try connecting to the Internet and see if you’re getting a stronger signal.

Update Router Firmware

Sometimes a simple software update could fix this issue. For example, updating the router firmware can improve connectivity and keep the router secure. It is recommended to download the latest updates available and install them.

The firmware update in your router may be triggered by simply resetting the device. Once the router is reset, it will reconnect to Fios’s network, and it would have already gotten hold of the new update.

Another method is by using a url and sending an update request. Open a web browser, open: https://192.168.1.1/#/advanced/fwupgrade. Then you have to sign in using admin and the password that is printed on your router. Follow the instructions to complete the update.

Check if Your Data Limit is Exhausted

If you’ve exhausted your data limit, i.e., your internet usage has reached its maximum limit, there’s a chance you won’t be able to connect to the Internet. It all depends on the plan you have adopted for your home Wi-Fi.

Sometimes what happens is that you exhaust your data limit if you watch several videos simultaneously. Or download apps that consume a lot of space. Fios doesn’t charge you extra if you go over the data limit; it simply disconnects you. You can fix this by updating your data plan.

Contact Verizon

If you’ve reached this step, then that means you have tried everything you can. Unfortunately, there’s nothing more you can do other than to Contact Verizon Customer Care. There are experts there who will look into the issue and offer a solution.

You may schedule a phone call with the support through Verizon Support. Explain the issue in great detail. Or you may call them on their toll-free number, which is available on their website. You can also sign in to My Verizon using the app on your phone or web browser and contact customer support through that.

Get your Fios Wi-Fi Working Again

While rebooting, make sure you have disconnected from the backup battery if you have one. When you reset, you will have to re-enter your credentials on the back of the device. Also, make sure you have all the information you need to log in to your account.

Also, while setting up the router, ensure that it is located in a place where it gets enough airflow because you want your router to stay cool. If everything fails, contact the internet service provider in your area to see if there are any problems with the internet connection. Service outages can also interrupt the internet connection.
