American apparel company Carhartt is at the centre of a heated Twitter debate that has led some conservatives opposed to the company’s recent vaccine mandate to call for a boycott. The ongoing conversation stems from an announcement made by the company regarding its vaccine mandate for staff, leading people on both sides of the debate to take to social media. The email read: “We put workplace safety at the very top of our priority list and the supreme court’s recent ruling doesn’t impact that core value. We, and the medical community, continue to believe vaccines are necessary to ensure a safe working environment for every associate and even perhaps their households. “While we appreciate there may be differing views, workplace safety is an area where we and the union that represents our associates cannot compromise. An unvaccinated workforce is both a people and a business risk our company is unwilling to take.” The message follows a decision from the US Supreme Court this month that confirmed the government couldn’t force large employers to make covid-19 vaccination or weekly testing mandatory. However, Carhartt said the Supreme Court decision had not changed company requirements, which is why the above vaccine mandate email was sent, as reported by the BBC. Carhartt spokesperson respondsSeveral people have expressed their disappointment over the news of the vaccine mandate as the hashtag ‘Boycott Carhartt’ trended on Twitter on January 20th. In response to the backlash, a spokesperson told the BBC: “Carhartt fully understands and respects the varying opinions on this topic and we are aware some of our associates do not support this policy. “However, we stand behind our decision because we believe vaccines are necessary to protect our workforce.” In other news, Rishi Sunak's predicted PM win on Diwali will be 'historical' says Indian Twitter users
