Jake and April

Jake and April had been dating for two years when they joined the Netflix show. During their split, Jake was paired with Rae as a trial and the pair seemingly found a connection and even shared a kiss! April was joined with Colby but it was pretty clear she wanted to remain committed to Jake.

Jake and Rae got on so well that viewers were convinced they were going to end up together – however, this did not come to fruition. As for April, she and Jake are no longer together and she's now happily in love with her new partner, Cody.

Alexis and Hunter

Alexis and Hunter were also dating for two years before they joined The Ultimatum, but it was Hunter who had doubts about walking down the aisle – despite Alexis being ready. While separated, the pair coupled up with other people, and Hunter seemed to form a connection with April. However, Alexis and Hunter ended up reuniting and now they are engaged and due to marry in June. We love a happy ending!

Lauren and Nathan

Lauren and Nathan were one of the longer-term couples and had been happily in a relationship for two and a half years prior to entering the experiment. Lauren went on to trial a marriage with Colby and Nathan, nicknamed Nate, clearly didn't like this. The reason the pair were having trouble was over their disagreements about children.

However, in the end, Nate ended up proposing and said he would sacrifice not having children if it meant staying with Lauren. The couple have clearly worked out their differences and remain together to this day and are engaged to be married.

Madlyn and Colby

Madlyn and Colby was arguably one of the most talked about couples, given Colby's admission that his love for Madlyn didn't deter him from getting intimate with other girls. But, it seems all worked out in the end. The pair are now married and are even expecting a baby girl together. Cute!

Shanique and Randall

Shanique and Randall were together for one and half years when they joined the Netflix show and seemed pretty in love. Shanique gave Randall the ultimatum to get married but Randall was more cautious.

After both went off with other potential love-interests, they came back together on reunion day and declared their love for each other. They clearly still have their blips (they revealed at the reunion they split for a short while) but they're determined to pull through.

Rae and Zay

As mentioned, Rae got close to Jake during the experiment and Zay seemed to get cosy with Shanique. The couple faced tumultuous times throughout and had a big argument soon after reuniting.

Jake and Rae were together at one point

During the reunion, Rae came out as bisexual and said she had been in relationship with a woman. Since then, however, they split and Rae said on Instagram she was now single.

The Ultimatum spoilers follow.

The Ultimatum is taking 'you don’t know what you've got til it's gone' and turning it up to the max as it thrusts unsure couples into a "make up or break up" test.

Over the course of the first eight episodes, couples who were on the verge of getting engaged were split up and paired with someone new with the intent to see if they're missing out on something better elsewhere. They were then repaired up to experience what their lives would potentially be like if they did get married.

The results were catastrophic in some cases, with long-held relationships demolished while others were more reaffirmed than ever.

Now, the final two episodes have dropped, where the results of The Ultimatum were finally revealed.

Here’s what happened to the six couples who took part on the show, and what they decided to do…

Randall and Shanique

"This is not where I expected to be at the end of this experience, I thought I was getting a proposal from someone else… but this is great too,” Rae laughed to cameras. "It's not what I planned but it's fine."

However, the trip never happened, and they decided to walk away from each other to "take time to heal" from the experiment.

At the reunion, Jake revealed that he had since taken time for himself. He claimed that he felt his feelings "weren't being recognised in his relationship with April" and he didn't even want to be on the show, making April kick off.

April and Jake had attempted to rekindle their romance, but now April has moved on and is in a serious relationship with someone new.

Colby and Madlyn

Despite their issues, she delightedly accepted his proposal.

"I walked in here thinking that I had nothing to learn and I couldn’t have been more wrong,” she told cameras. "I don't need somebody who isn't going to make mistakes, but someone who is willing to own up for them, and is willing to improve. This is the best choice I could've made."

Colby then followed up his proposal with a second one – getting married immediately, which Madlyn also accepted willingly. Just like that, he brings in a registrar and they get hitched.

By the time the reunion finale happened, Madlyn was seven months pregnant with their first child, a baby girl.

Calling married life a rollercoaster, Madlyn said their time on the show made them commit, adding they were "rowing for their team" rather than with each other.

"My ambition of this whole thing was to make sure I was with the right person, confirming my love for Madlyn," Colby said. "And it did exactly what my whole intention was for coming on here for, and look where we're at now."

"It was pretty surreal watching everything back. I was going through the experience with the thought that giving myself to Colby I would be losing [myself]," Madlyn added. "Being given the ultimatum and choosing Colby was a gift."

Alexis and Hunter

Hunter and Alexis had been dating for two years before signing up to the show, with Alexis delivering the ultimatum having become convinced Hunter was the one.

However, while Hunter knew he was at the stage in his life to move to the next step, he wasn't totally convinced if it was with her.

Alexis had high prospects for her potential husband, commenting that she didn't want to be the breadwinner in the relationship and make more than him. Her list of demands in a future husband didn't go unnoticed by the rest of her potential matches during the initial days of the experiment.

Hunter found himself getting rather attached to April, who was struggling with seeing her boyfriend, Jake, admit he had feelings for Rae so soon into the test.

But when it came to the rematching stage in episode two, Hunter surprised everyone by admitting just those few days was enough to know what he wanted – and with that, he proposed to a delighted Alexis, who accepted.

With that, the pair disappeared off into the sunset together. Not a dry eye in the house.

At the time of the reunion, the pair were planning a June wedding, with Hunter's mother taking control as the wedding planner (it's her profession), and Alexis has finally moved in with him.

Lauren and Nathan

The pair disappeared after that into an uncertain future, but at the reunion, they were still together, and Nathan insisted that he had proposed to her for the right reasons.

He added that he was willing to sacrifice having children if it meant staying with her.

"I met so many amazing people, and still no-one held the candle to Lauren for me," Nathan said of the experiment, adding that he never particularly wanted to partner up with someone else in the first place.

The pair have since been in couples' therapy to work on their relationship together. They have agreed to have children, but in time.

Rae and Zay

Netflix

Rae and Zay's relationship ended before the end of the experiment, with Rae falling for Jake during their time together.

Zay and Shanique got on well, with him even winning over her family by opening up about his troubled childhood and the couple ending up in bed together. Rae and Jake were also fully committed to the concept of a relationship together. Even Rae's father admitted he preferred Jake to Zay.

Shortly after reuniting, Zay and Rae fought, with Zay disappearing for an entire evening without contact, returning home at 8am smelling like "alcohol and perfume". It later emerged that he had accused her of sleeping with Jake when she hadn't, without mentioning he had slept with Shanique.

The pair had a major bust-up as Rae called time on their romance, with him initially clinging on to her to prevent her from leaving. The fight, off-camera, got physical, with Rae admitting she'd hit Zay in frustration over their argument and his refusal to apologise or say where he went.

Zay later returned to Shanique to vent his frustrations and enjoy more flirtation with her. However, in a twist he didn't see coming, he ended up getting angry and rowing with Shanique when she sided with Rae over his behaviour.

He believed the girls to be ganging up on him and not taking to account his past for the way he acts the way he does. Shanique told him he couldn't use his troubled childhood for his present decisions.

By the end of episode eight, Rae had moved her things out of the apartment, and their relationship was done.

Following the end of the show, the pair tried to rekindle their relationship, causing Zay to call her out at the reunion for still sleeping with him when she had feelings for Jake.

Rae used the chat to come out publicly as bisexual, revealing she had since been in a relationship with a woman and had taken the time to understand her sexuality.

“I have been with one person, she’s amazing, and I had a really good connection with her but we kept it casual and I’m kind of figuring out myself and my sexuality, because I was very uncomfortable with being bi for a very long time," Rae said.

"Since Zay and I have been done I’ve just been with one girl, and it's kind of been great, honestly."

But even with this development, the couple ended up having a massive screaming match in the middle of the reunion over him sleeping with Shanique while being cruel to her about it. He attempted to apologise, and then later walked off.

The Ultimatum is available now on Netflix.
