Who is responsible for romeo and juliets death

In the play Romeo and Juliet there are lots of events that lead to the death of the two main characters. There are many people responsible for the death of Romeo and Juliet and some of these characters are Tybalt, Capulet and Friar Lawrence. In the play, Tybalt has a large influence on the death of Romeo and Juliet. He helps contribute to their deaths because he kills Mercutio and Romeo in turn kills Tybalt which causes Romeo to be banished from Verona. Then Juliet tells “Romeo is banished!” “There is not end no limit, measure, bound. In that word’s death: no words can that woe sound.” (Act III Scene II 128-130) If Romeo had taken the time to think before killing Tybalt he would not have killed him and therefore he would not be…show more content…
Friar Lawrence plays a big part in causing the death of Romeo and Juliet because he secretly marries them knowing something either negative or positive will happen. Friar even tells Romeo the cautions for he says 'Wisely and slow. They stumble that run fast.' (Act II Scene III 97) Friar marries them because he thinks that the marriage is going to end the feud between the families of Romeo and Juliet. He knows that even though Romeo and Juliet are in love they will never be able to see each other. Not in a grave to lay one in, another out to have” (Act II scene III 85) Also, if Friar Lawrence did not give Juliet the potion that she was going to use to deceive her family into thinking she was dead to get out of her marriage to Paris and make Romeo aware of what was going to happen, their deaths would not have occurred. Romeo goes to the tomb thinking Juliet is really dead after Balthasar accidently informed him of Juliet’s apparent death not knowing of her plan. If he had stayed there longer without taking the poison he had obtained from Apothecary they both would not have killed themselves. He brought the poison to the tomb to end his own life next to Juliet after seeing for himself if she was really dead. Romeo did not want to live without Juliet. Capulet also played an important role in the death of Romeo and Juliet because he told Juliet that she was going to marry Paris and she had no choice. By

Romantic love stories typically end with a blissful moment, but it is not the case in Romeo and Juliet, the author of which preferred a tragedy rather than a happy ending. William Shakespeare puts a different vision of a love story by writing his most famous play Romeo and Juliet. Published in the 16th century, the tragedy depicts a forbidden romance of two Verona citizens who struggle with their families to live happily together. However, nobody wants them to be together and in the end, both lovers die. Even though Romeo is thought to be responsible for their deaths, Friar Laurence and Tybalt somehow contributed to the lovers’ fate.

The first character to blame is Friar Laurence, who secretly decided to marry the eloped lovers, Romeo and Juliet. Particularly, knowing possible repercussions the lovers can be subjected to, the friar still wants to marry them. The monk proclaimed, “for this alliance may so happy prove, to turn your households’ rancor to pure love” (Shakespeare 44). The other reason the monk Laurence is guilty of the lovers’ deaths is because he advised Juliet. The friar recommended that she took a sleeping potion to avoid the marriage arranged by her parents. This advice was inconsiderate as Laurence was unaware of the possible consequences. The last reason to blame the friar is that of his indiscretion of not sending a servant to Romeo to warn him that Juliet is not dead. Thus, Friar Laurence should have created more elaborate plans to prevent this tragedy.

Another character, who is guilty, is Juliet’s cousin, Tybalt. In other words, he started the conflict by fighting at the beginning of the play. He was the one who provoked even worse hatred between the families. Moreover, Tybalt observes Romeo at the Capulet’s party, enrages, and threatens to kill him. For Tybalt could not realize that Romeo did not harm anyone, he decided to avenge, causing the lovers’ demise (Herman and Sitio 46). He inadvertently killed Romeo’s friend and consequently died in a fight with Romeo. Thus, if he could have held his fits of temper, the main characters would have survived.

Others claim that the character to blame for the occurrence is Romeo himself. One cannot deny that Romeo was not supposed to attend Capulet’s party, but he did go there, and Juliet’s cousin Tybalt got angry when he saw Romeo: “the king will sentence you to death if you are caught” (Shakespeare 57). Moreover, he wanted to avenge his friend Mercutio’s death by murdering Tybalt. For Romeo could not restrain from expressing his wrath, he was banished from Verona and lost a chance of settling down the family feud. Therefore, the main character is amongst the ones to blame because of the ardent nature that forced him to make wrong decisions. However, Romeo cannot be considered to be responsible for his and Juliet’s deaths. Therefore, he is not guilty of poisoning himself and subsequently dying because he was suppressed by the people around who he blamed for Juliet’s death.

In conclusion, it is evident that Romeo and Juliet’s deaths were not only caused by the poisonous mixture but turned out to have been influenced by other people. The Friar Laurence, Tybalt, and Romeo himself, to some extent, cause the tragic event by not thinking before committing some actions. Many improper decisions made led to the death of separated loves. As a result, if all characters had been able to think logically, the tragedy would not have happened.

He is responsible because he shouldn't of killed Tybalt accidentally and that way he wouldn't of had to vanish (exile) from Verona but he said he would revenge his friend's death.

Juliet

It was her fault because she married romeo to fast . She shouldve waited a little bit longer get to know him better . And she faked her death if she wouldnt of not she couldve still lived happy with romeo.

Mercutio

It is his fault because if it wasnt for him he wouldnt of met juliet and they never wouldnt of went to that party and fell in love.

Friar Lawrence

He is most to blame (in my opinion) because he gave romeo that idea of marrying him and juliet together knowing that he was a montague and she a capulet to set the peace.

The feuding houses

It was their fault because if they would've let them be together they wouldn't of commit suicide the both of them and there problems shouldnt of happened beetween their problems

The nurse

It was her fault because she gave permission to juliet to marry romeo also she allowed romeo to go to visit her before he got exiled the next day. And that even made them feel closer like more in love so to the point they both killed eatchother .

Tybalt

It is tybalts fault because if he never wouldve killed mercutio than he wouldnt of made romeo mad and kill him. And he challenged romeo and romeo just ignored this but mercutio got in the middle and got killed and made romeo mad.

Fate

Fate because in the beginning it told us that they were "star crossed lovers" and it was fate that they both came from feuding houses.

Lord Capulet

It was his fault because he was forcing juliet to marry paris a guy she dosent love and thats why she decided to take the poison to avoid that and stay loyal to romeo. But he didnt realize that he was hurting her he just cared about his reputation.

Benvolio

He shouldve stopped romeo from killing tybalt and give him good advice and try to help his cousin .

Lady Capulet

It is her fault because she didnt have that bond with her daughter where they could say anything to eatchother and it couldve ended another way if they did.

Montague

They had the chance to end the feud but they didnt and that mad romeo and juliet hide their relationship and go to extreme and commit suicide .

Lady montague

It was her fault because she shouldve been more carefull and make sure romeo didnt sneak out and prevent alot of things.

Count Paris

It is his fault because he was getting in the way of romeo and juliet and he ruined friar lawrence plan by wanting to marry juliet as soon as possible than to avoid that she fakes her death and leads to both romeo and juliet's death

Balthasar

He is responsible because he is the one that told romeo that juliet was dead. When he wasnt supposed to cause obviously romeo was going to go crazy and it wasnt him that was supposed to tell him that news it was friar . And that caused romeo to buy poison and killhimself.

Prince Escalus

It was his fault because he knew there was a feud with the families but he didnt do anything into the deaths or romeo and juliet.

Sampson

He was on of the servants from the capulet house and dressed rich to impress people and keep lord capulets reputation with the people.

Gregory

He tries to start a fight with the montague but prince escalus warns him not too and there servants so them and the other servants they started problems him and sampson

I believe that Shakespeare wrote the play in such a way that everyone could be blamed for the deaths. The only way to end the feud between the Montague’s and Capulet’s was to make everyone feel guilty for their actions. If everyone believed that they could have played some part in the tragic ends of their friends and children then they would want to make a change .
