The Cowboys and 49ers renew their playoff rivalry.

One of the NFL's greatest playoff rivalries is back Sunday as the Dallas Cowboys take on the San Francisco 49ers from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, in the NFC Wild Card round. They faced each other from 1992-1994 with the Cowboys winning two of three (1992, 1993). The winner of those games ended up winning the Super Bowl (Cowboys 92-93, 49ers 1994). The Cowboys (13-4) return to the playoffs for the first time since 2018. They come in on fire, having won five of their last six, including a 51-26 drubbing of the Philadelphia Eagles in the season finale last week. The Cowboys are led by quarterback Dak Prescott, who threw for 4,449 yards and 37 touchdowns. Running back Ezekiel Elliott lead the NFC East champion with 1,002 yards rushing and ten touchdowns. The 49ers (10-7) snuck into the postseason with a come-from-behind win by going to Los Angeles and beating the NFC West champion Rams 27-24, to end the regular season winning four of their last five. After not making the playoffs in 2021, the 49ers return to the tournament for the 28th time. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo returned to the form when he led the 49ers to Super Bowl LIV by throwing for 3,810 yards and 20 touchdowns. Can the Cowboys reach the promised land or do the 49ers spoil the party?

Here is everything you need to know about the Dallas Cowboys vs. San Francisco 49ers.

The Cowboys and 49ers have a storied history of playoff matchups. While the two NFC contenders don't square off every year, they logged multiple conference championship wins against each other in the 1970s and 1990s, while San Francisco counts "The Catch" victory against Dallas in the 1981 NFC Championship as one of the greatest moments in franchise history. Suffice to say, this Sunday's game between the Cowboys and 49ers -- arguably the premier showdown of Super Wild Card Weekend -- is must-see TV.

What to Know

The Dallas Cowboys will duke it out with the San Francisco 49ers in the first round of the playoffs Sunday at AT&T Stadium at 4:30 p.m. ET. These two teams might be coming in a bit winded after having run the length of the field multiple times in their most recent games.

Dallas took their contest against the Philadelphia Eagles last week by a conclusive 51-26 score. The Cowboys' QB Dak Prescott did his thing and passed for five TDs and 295 yards on 27 attempts.

Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but San Francisco ultimately got the result they were hoping for last week with a 27-24 victory over the Los Angeles Rams. The win came about thanks to a strong surge after the half to overcome a 17-3 deficit. It was another big night for the 49ers' WR Deebo Samuel, who threw one touchdown in addition to punching in one rushing touchdown and catching four passes for 95 yards.

This next matchup is expected to be close, with Dallas going off at just a 3-point favorite. They have been consistent moneymakers against the spread when favored (8-3), so they might be worth a quick bet.

A pair of defensive stats to keep in the back of your head while watching: Dallas enters the game having picked the ball off 26 times, good for first in the league. As for San Francisco, they enter the game with 22 forced fumbles, which is the best in the NFL.

The Dallas Cowboys (12-5) will host the San Francisco 49ers (10-7) on Sunday in one of the most interesting games in the Wild Card round of the 2022 NFL playoff.

However, the 49ers also go into the Wild Card game with confidence, as they managed to come back from a 17-point deficit in the last match of the regular season to defeat the Los Angeles Rams in overtime.

The Dallas Cowboys had a good weekend as far as the NFL playoffs are concerned. On Saturday night they did their part in the hunt for a higher seed by defeating the Philadelphia Eagles, 51-26. Then they got the help they needed (partially) with the San Francisco 49ers beating the Los Angeles Rams, and the Seattle Seahawks taking care of the Arizona Cardinals. That moved the Cowboys up to the third seed in the NFC.

With that move, the Cowboys will take on the San Francisco 49ers in the Wildcard Round on Sunday, January 16th at 4:30pm ET. That game will be played at AT&T Stadium.

The Green Bay Packers and the Tennessee Titans secured the top seeds in the NFC and AFC respectively and will get a bye next weekend.
