K-pop stage-breakers SEVENTEEN were crowned PUSH Performance of the Year at 2022 MTV Video Music Awards, becoming the first K-pop artist to take the category home.
At the awards show held at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ on August 28, the K-pop performance powerhouse was announced as the PUSH Performance of the Year winner, for their performance of “Rock with you” featured in the December 2021 Global PUSH Artist campaign. SEVENTEEN were the first K-pop artist ever to be featured as an MTV PUSH Artist.
Upon accepting the award, SEVENTEEN said, “It was a huge honor to be featured as the first K-pop artist for MTV PUSH, and even a greater one to receive the MTV PUSH Performance of the Year award. We’re on tour right now so we can’t be there in person. We hope you all have the greatest night ever.”
Following two sold-out shows in Seoul that marked the largest show in the city with an audience since the onset of the pandemic, SEVENTEEN are currently touring North America for ‘Seventeen World Tour [Be The Sun].’ After action-packed shows in Vancouver, Seattle, Oakland, Los Angeles, Houston, Fort Worth, Chicago and Washington, D.C., the K-pop supergroup will bring their must-see show to Atlanta, Belmont Park, Toronto and Newark next. Shows in Asia are set to follow through the year.
Racking up 2 billion streams and selling 10 million albums, SEVENTEEN – comprised of S Coups, Jeonghan, Joshua, Jun, Hoshi, Wonwoo, Woozi, The 8, Mingyu, DK, Seungkwan, Vernon And Dino – have rocketed to the forefront of the music scene fuelled by a fiercely independent spirit and a nonpareil in-house creative ecosystem.
The 13-piece act’s innovative structure hinges on the interplay of three units: hip-hop, vocal, and performance. Living up to the title of “K-pop Stage-breakers,” SEVENTEEN have unassumingly become one of the biggest groups ever due to their world-class synchronization, jaw-dropping choreography, and tight teamwork.
On the morning of August 29th (Korean time), SEVENTEEN received the trophy for the “PUSH Performance of the Year” category at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards (hereinafter referred to as ‘2022 MTV VMA’), which was held at the Prudential Center in New Jersey, USA. In particular, the group won “PUSH Performance Of The Year” for their song “Rock With You” – the title of their 9th mini album “Attaca”. SEVENTEEN was unable to attend the awards ceremony in person, so they expressed their feelings through a video. In addition to this category, Seventeen was also nominated in the Best K-Pop and Best New Artist categories. Meanwhile, at the “2022 MTV Video Music Awards”, BTS and BLACKPINK were nominated in 6 and 3 categories, respectively. Lisa was recently announced as the winner for “Best Kpop” while BLACKPINK won “Best Metaverse Performance” Source: mbnstar

The MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist has been given out since the first annual MTV Video Music Awards in 1984.[1] Until 2006, the award was named Best New Artist in a Video. In 2007 its name was changed to Best New Artist, as the category underwent a format change to recognize the artist's body of work for the full year rather than a specific video. For the 2008 ceremony, the award retained its 2007 name but returned to the format of awarding a specific video rather than the artist's full body of work. The category was later renamed Artist to Watch through 2013 to 2015 while still keeping the format of an award going to a particular video. In 2020, the Best New Artist award merged with the Push Artist of the Year award (2018-2019) to create the Push Best New Artist award.[2][3] In 2021, MTV returned the category to its original name (Best New Artist), thus separating it from the MTV Push initiative, which again received its own category (Push Performance of the Year).
