What is between 1/8 and 1/4

In CAD the convention is to draw full size and apply a zoom factor for printing to a particular scale. To derive the zoom factor you invert the scale and multiply by 12. So:

1/8"=1'-0" -------- 96

3/16"=1'-0" -------- 64

1/4"=1'-0" -------- 48

Halfway between 96 and 48 is 72, and yet the math gives me 64. Besides part of my brain, what am I missing here?

  • The fraction that is half way between 1/4 and 1/8:

    1/2(1/4 + 1/8)

    = 1/2(3/8)

    = 3/16

  • 1/4 = 4/16 and 1/8 = 2/16

So the fraction in between 4/16 and 2/16 is 3/16

  • 1/4 = 4/16

    and

    1/8 = 2/16

so 3/16 would be halfway between.

Or you could find the average

    (1/4 + 1/8) / 2 = 3/16

  • ((1/4)+(1/8))/2

    = ((2/8+(1/8))/2

    = (3/8)/2

    = 3/16

  • Arithmetically halfway?

    1/4 = 4/16

    1/8 = 2/16

    SOLUTION: 3/16

    ––––––––––––––––––––

  • 1/4 = 0.25

    1/8 = 0.125

    (0.25 + 0.125)/2 = 0.1875

    0.1875 = 3/16

  • i don’t give direct answers but a way to find out for yourself. it,s the number that comes between 4 and 8.

so the answer is one sixth hope that helped you

As a proper fraction, it would be 1 1/4 - 2/8 - 4/16. As an Improper fraction it would be 5/4, 10/8 20/16.
