Melania Trump watched her husband, Donald Trump, at last night’s presidential debate wearing a fuchsia pussy-bow blouse. Don’t laugh; that’s the name of this style of blouse with a bow tied at the neck, named after the ones frequently tied around cats’ necks. And, as we all know, cats are sometimes called pussycats. Cut out the cat part, and what do you get? A pussy bow. The style also has an interesting feminist history. Trump’s top appears to be from Gucci’s pre-Fall 2016 collection; it retails for $1,100 (Vanity Fair has reached out to the Trump campaign for confirmation). Melania Trump probably thought she was picking a vibrant outfit for the debate. Unfortunately she failed to see the irony in wearing a style of shirt with “pussy” in the name. The Internet was quick to point it out, though. https://twitter.com/politiquette/status/785304163542597632 https://twitter.com/katieleecle/status/785311945041653762 https://twitter.com/FreeBeacon/status/785312303663243264 https://twitter.com/lilbit_liebs/status/785330829266456576 https://twitter.com/CBSNews/status/785378083654295555 Or did she understand the irony completely? Some viewers took Trump’s shirt-style choice as a silent way of commenting on the audio released by The Washington Post on Friday in which her husband was caught on a hot mic telling Billy Bush, then of Access Hollywood, that, “When you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything. Grab them by the pussy.” The comments were referenced at last night’s debate. It appears the denizens of the Internet were reading too much into Trump’s choice, though.
