What Happened To Tank On FBI: International?

When the series came back with episode 9, we learn about what happened to Tank. Earlier the fans were able to see that something was off about Tank but before guessing anything else the show decided to take up their winter holiday and went hiatus. Fans were left with no idea of what happened to Tank and about his well-being as well. But the show returned fans got to see how Tank was doing. Kellet told Forrester that the bombing must have shaken Tank but Forrester knew that something much more is going on with Tank. Forrester was the one to hire the four-legged agent, Tank. Tank instantly became everyone’s favorite and he had separate fans for himself. But the bombing that took place before the break really messed up Tank. When the episode returned we were able to see Forrester taking Tank to the Vet. While diagnosing him, it was said that Tank was injured from the bombing but that is not the only reason that Tank is sick.

While diagnosing Tank, more than bomb injuries were found about him. Doctors said that they have found a lump on his throat which could potentially be a cancer lump. It was informed to Forrester and he said to run tests while he was overseas with his team on a mission. But as an unfortunate turn of events, a second lump was discovered in Tank’s intestine but Forrester was busy. The doctor was anxious to perform surgery soon and tried to get Forrester’s permission before the surgery but he was extremely busy. Then, Kellet finally gave permission to perform the surgery. When Forrester and his team returned from Bulgaria after the mission they were relieved to find out that Tank survived the surgery but he was not well. They won’t be knowing how Tank is doing for the next few days because it’ll take time for anything to show up after the surgery. Fans saw some heartbreaking scenes of Tank being admitted to hospital and with an IV.

When the FBI came with its latest addition onto the franchise fans were more excited to see the Canine show stealer on FBI: International. The tank became the first animal to make his appearance as a regular. Forrester adopted the special agent Tank and the showrunner Derek told the magazine, Parade "We thought it would be fun if Forrester had a dog that had a little history with the FBI." And everyone thinks that is true. He also added "And it was unique; you hadn’t seen it before. We do have to have a little bit of a signature from the other two shows, and having a dog running around with the team we thought was cool." Pooch became everyone’s favorite since his first appearance and fans were even curious about the canine breed. Tank’s original name is Green and belongs to Giant Schnauzer’s breed. The pooch’s fans tweeted about him and asked the show producers to protect the character at all costs.

So I’m watching this for the first time and they’ve got a dog on the team. I googled it to find out what kind of dog and there seems to be disagreement. Here’s an article I found

Distractify – 22 Sep 21

The new series and latest spinoff has a whole new cast, but Tank on ‘FBI: International’ is going to be the team’s secret weapon and a quick favorite.

I believe he’s a giant schnauzer but they keep calling him a shutzhound which appears to be generic term for police dog.

Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Sorry about the misspellings above. One article I found called him a German shepherd but even I can see he’s not

Schutzhund is German for “protection dog”. Schutzhund training is broken into three aspects, tracking, obedience and protection work (which is often recognized in police work).

Any dog can do Schutzhund but most commonly it is the German Shepherd although many of the other traditional ‘protection’ breeds like Malinois, Belgian Shepherds, etc are often found. Schutzhund is a training discipline, not, to the best of my knowledge, a breed.

Tank, the dog in FBI International, is a schnauzer. When I saw the first episode, I went back and forth between the Giant Schnauzer and a Bouvier des Flandres. Either would be suitable breeds for schutzhund work and both have been used in that role in the past.

Yup, any dog breed with the right temperament can do schutzhund work…

Bouvier des Flanders? They are very commonly used as police dogs in Europe.

Looks like a Giant Schnauzer with natural ears. I’ve never seen the show but based on the two photos in the link.

Thanks for the replies. I do like the Giant Schnauzers, only seen them on the Thanksgiving dog show on TV. I guess they crop the tails? The ones I’ve seen in shows have tails like stubs, like Jack Russells, but this one has a ‘long’ tail.

AKC standard requires a docked tails, but obviously people who don’t plan to show may choose not to dock. They can be shown with natural ears in AKC show but I don’t know how typical that is.

In Europe most dogs are shown without docking and cropping (I believe) is banned in most countries.

That’s the breed I had for almost 30 years although did not do Schutzhund with them. A few, conformation, one obedience (she hated it), one herding instinct tested… all very much loved

Yes, I know they can be found in law enforcement work. The breed almost died out during WWII as they were also used as ‘work’ dogs pulling mortars and such (or so I have been told).

My last two had natural ears but still had the tail docked.

I love Tank! He’s definitely a fan favorite. He’s a great looking dog for sure. I love big dogs as I grew up with them. My mom has a Great Pyrenees mix.
