Q: Why did you choose to be a teacher?

Why become a teacher? Its a great opportunity to use your creative skills to help children discover that learning is critical. You set them up to reach their goals and to make a positive difference in the world. Being able to attend school is a game-changer for children, and teachers play the most significant role.

Why would I want to teach? It started back in Kindergarten when I started school myself. I was fascinated with becoming just like my teacher. Little did I know back then that my desire to be like her would actually become a desire I would follow. As I grew older and learned more about becoming an educator, three items caught my eye and mind: teacher’s job benefits, making a difference and how passionate they become. As I grew up, I started to ask my teachers what benefits they got from being one; the answer I received the most was vacation. During my years in primary and secondary education, I always looked towards my days off but I didn’t realize teachers did too. The vacation time off has always caught my eye because it would give me the time to be with my family. Once I become settled into the way of being a teacher, I want to start my own family with someone I love. The vacation time would give me certain days I know I could spend with them. This passion I have is like no other. I get extremely excited to share my knowledge with them. To gain this knowledge, I am throwing myself into all my classes. It is true that I needed to motivate myself again but now I am even more excited. The challenges I am sure to run into in my career thrill me as well. I can’t wait to see how I will deal with them as they come. It makes me energized and impatient for the future. Though being motivated through my passion and future challenges, I also want to love these future students as much as my teachers loved me. I know without the love they had for me, they wouldn’t have done half the things they did. I knew I could count on them if anything aroused. Why did I choose Secondary Education: Because I love to teach.

About my college education: For me, studying this course was difficult and interesting since my field of interest is mathematics. The student must be patient; ready to have painstaking effort and of course versatile in numbers.

My current job: At present I'm teaching mathematics, specifically to the grade seven students.
As teacher, I'm not just focusing on my students' academics, but also, with the best I can, I'm teaching them things that would prepare them for their wider service in the future. Teaching the students on how they would face the real world, giving them encouragements to have a progressive life, and taking it as an opportunity to help them build their own future...these are just but few things a teacher must consider.
With all these, I'm thankful of being a teacher; being a part of the noble work.

Am I using what I learned in college: Yes, I've really used what I have learned from my college years, especially my knowledge on how to teach mathematics.

How long did it take to find a job: After my graduation it took me one year to find a job since I've waited for my Philippine Board Exam for Teachers result.

Do I recommend studying Secondary Education: To those who are entering college, I would like to recommend you to take up Bachelor in Secondary Education, because teaching is very interesting career and with a high salary compared to others, and this has more opportunities of employment.

Advice to people who are thinking of studying this course: To those who are considering to study Bachelor in Secondary Education,
Know first your interests, ask yourself if you really love this course or you really love to teach... if so learn to master your moods, because while studying, you will encounter different obstacles. Don't be mad whenever circumstances arise, be able to carry your mood and be flexible; patience is very important since this course have numerous trial-and-error solutions to take up. Be courageous enough in facing trials and obstacles in life.Another thing, choose those friends who can inspire and encourage you most to sail on your study, study hard to have passing marks and to end your studies with flying colors.

Why did I choose Secondary Education: I chose this course because I am very interested to teach children, I want to share all the knowledge I have to my students. And to help our family business which is family school.

About my college education: My course is very interesting and challenging. Interesting because I know that I will learn many things while I am teaching. Of course, a teacher will never stop learning. Challenging because as a teacher I will encounter students with different attitudes, co-teachers and problems.

Am I using what I learned in college: Of course I have used my course in my current job because I am still teaching for the past six years.

How long did it take to find a job: It did not take long time for me to have this job after my graduation

Do I recommend studying Secondary Education: Yes, I would recommend this course to others, In employment opportunities, many schools in Public and Private are in need of teachers. As the population grow, the teachers are highly needed. It is an interesting career because you will learn many things aside from being a good teacher. Salary level is good enough but of course it depends on your status as a teacher and from the school you are teaching.

Advice to people who are thinking of studying this course: For those who are studying this course, be patient. Study very well and be open for new ideas and information because it will help you to become a good teacher.

Why did I choose BSEd in English: Through my frustration of not pursuing my first course that I chose, which was Mass Communication, I decided to take up this course. Somehow it filled in the frustration that I had before and that frustration turned to be my strength. Later on I started to love the power of teaching and teaching was the best thing happened in the 4 years of my college life.

About my college education: I love English. I thought it was just focus on English Grammar but all aspects of English Literature and Linguistics including Research were all injected into our young minds, but as the time went on, though sometimes it was hard for us to understand all the terminologies and topics but at the end we tried to understand and learn it from the heart because one day, it will be our turn to make our learners learn to love this subject.
Minor in Physical Education helped me to feel balance in everything because of too much reading literary works, sometimes I experienced Mental Fatigue. I took my PE class as a tool to overcome my mental fatigue. Everything was okay for me. As a student, I always inculcated in my mind and in my heart that being a student of PNU Agusan was not that easy but later on you will enjoy it more and more.

My current job: I am presently teaching Research 1 and English Teacher of Open High School Program of Muntinlupa National High School. I am teaching basic research to Grade 8 students of Science and Technology Engineering Curriculum.

A month after graduation, I decided to find my luck here in Manila and worked as a call center agent but it just made me 1 year to work in BPO company because of health problems due to schedule. After one year, I decided to apply in private school in North Fairview QC for 3 years. then I went home to our province in Surigao del Sur and landed a job as Facilitator of Alternative Learning System teaching Out of School Youth and Adult who did not finish elementary and high school. then 2012 I went back here in Muntinlupa City.I wasn't able to catch up the ranking of Public Sschool Teachers in DepEd Muntinlupa. I decided to apply in private school for a year and then I applied again in DepEd Muntinlupa as teacher 1.a fter made some test, interview and demo teaching, on April 15 2013. the Muntinlupa National High school principal texted me that I was chosen for Teacher 1 regular Permanent Teacher..It took me 7 years to achieve my dream of being a public school teacher.

Am I using what I learned in college: Yes. I use it everyday of my life as a teacher inside and outside the classroom. the strategies that I learned and I used in my work are tasks for students that applies Multiple Intelligence that according to Gardner, all of the people in this world has unique talents and skills..for example in the classroom setting. not all students have the same skills. they have weaknesses but it doesn't mean that a certain student will be considered as a poor student. to avoid discrimination, we applied activities that would fit to the students capability and understanding. another strategy is the discovery approach. the traditional teaching is teacher -centered but in the 21st century. the learners do the discovery of the lesson. the teacher acts as facilitator and the concept being emphasized that in the classroom setting allow the students to talk and talk to develop their communication skills. It is called Student-Centered Approach.

Do I recommend studying BSEd in English: Yes, I would definitely recommend this course. BSE English Teachers is in demand in private and public school. but if you are a fresh graduate and you weren't able to get the regular permanent position in Public school, the best job that would match this course is Online English Teacher to Koreans and other Asian Countries, Tutorials, Online Writers and Proof readers.

Salary Level for Public School teachers in Teacher 1 Position ranges 18,000.
if you want extra income you can apply for part time tutorials in English.
Online English Teachers salary ranges from 10k up to 20k, It depends upon your client, and learner.

Advice to people who are thinking of studying this course: My advice to those people who wanted to consider taking up this course is start learning to become a reader. Being an English Major needs to become appreciative and open minded to literature and literary pieces. In taking up Minor course, appreciate the culture of the people in different parts of the world through dance and sports.

Why did I choose BSEd in English: I love teaching. When I was in high school I used to tutor my cousins about their lessons in school. I like it when people learn something from me. It feels fulfilling.

About my college education: I learned a lot especially about K12. We were exposed to K12 even before it's applied in Philippine curriculum. We are exposed to intel teach online and so many forums. I liked how our curricula is updated always to fit our needs to become excellent 21st century teachers. Though major English subjects are real hard and a pain in the A, it sure is worth it learning all of them. I loved linguistics so much! Theory application in literature is sure hard but awesome and motivating.

Exams are not easy I tell you but it's really going to test how much you've learned. Some of my classmates failed and had to repeat the subject the next semester but they have the motivation to repeat and pass the subject thanks to the teachers who always teach us to become determined individuals and better educators for the future.
For one to succeed in this course you will always need determination. Passion. Patience. Perseverance and good attitude. Be positive in life and become motivated to never give up.

My current job: I am now working online as an English teacher.
I am yet to take my LET exam. Once I earn my license I will soon work in school.

How long did it take to find a job: I got hired even before I graduated. Thanks to our schools name and to the training they gave me.

Advice to people who are thinking of studying this course: You don't need to be an expert English speaker because you're here to learn. Believe me you'll learn it once you're already in. You came to learn so you must be open to learn and change for the better. You may not be as diligent but you will be once you become part of us. You don't need to force yourself to change because joining us here will give you inspiration to become better where soon change you to that best version of you in the future. You'll need to bring with you your passion or else you'll never survive.

About my college education: The course is quiet challenging specially in our higher math subject since our professors are tough. Really tough! However, our major subjects in education are very interactive. The're not boring. I feel like I'm connected every time we had class.

My current job: I am teaching in a government secondary school.

Am I using what I learned in college: Yes! Especiall in my major subjects in mathematics education. I am fund of just becoming a facilitator in my class. I usually give a lot of activities that will require my students to use their skills and work by their own. And these all I got from MSU-IIT.

About my college education: Learning is fun, it is the only way for us individuals to be rational. I believe that as long as we live, we learn. Learning is dynamic it never stops. I have decided to offer my life as a teacher to reach out to those who are in need. I know I don't have enough money to help the unfortunate ones, but I know by constructing with them the kind of education that I have gained from my college years I know I will be able to generate meaningful changes in their lives.

Us teachers, We have to balance our personal and professional qualities as individuals. I understand that human personality is the vehicle to effective teaching, but there's no specific formula for being a teacher. Although we have certain qualities to maintain such as having a pregnant mind, patience, positive, communicative, dependable, compassionate, creative, value based, individually perspective etc.

Teaching is more than just a profession, it is driven by strong passion and dedication. It is a calling. I wouldnt be here without the permission of God. This is what God has ordained me to do therefore I must continue.
It is not satisfying when it comes to salary, it is considered as the noblest profession although there's more to life than having a huge amount of money... If you make money the center of your life therefore you will be controlled by money. Make God as the center of your life so that you will be guided by his omnipotent hands. Choose a career that fills not only your pocket but also your heart. Fill your heart with happiness and contentment. Evaluate your skills before choosing a career. Be proactive and always be optimistic. Look at the brighter side of life and be strong and have faith, let me just remind you that there's a hand guiding our steps.

About my college education: First and foremost, my course is really interesting. It is all about science. I learned about almost everything. From geography, astronomy, meteorology, bio, chem, physics, everything. Very wonderful course. It is not difficult too because all the subjects are just fundamentals of all sciences so I don't need to learn complicated concepts. I enjoyed the field trips, field research and experiments. They were all related to real-life situations. Of course it was challenging. I learned how to answer super basic daily life questions like "why is the sky blue?" " why is the sea salty?". These questions exist in our little minds but not all people knows the real answer.

I learned huge amount of things. I gained bulk information regarding our daily lives. I learned how to interact with people around while trying to solve basic daily questions.

My current job: I am a science lab technician.

Am I using what I learned in college: Indeed, I am using all I learned in the college laboratory. Basics lab things like how to use beakers, how to operate Bunsen burners are there. So I don't need to run and get scared when something is wrong with the Bunsen burner.

I also learned basic first aid and I am applying it today in my present job. Things like what to do when a student spills chemicals, what to do when a student burns himself with hot water. Its really nice. I love what I am doing.

How long did it take to find a job: 1 month after graduation

Do I recommend studying BSEd in General Science: Yes, there are only rare science graduates, and opportunity is high. So employment is good and salary also is good for science teachers and lecturers.

This course is very nice, interesting and fulfilling. Everything learned in college is all applicable in real life situation.

Why did I choose BSEd in Filipino: Because it’s my favorite subject and I want to have a deeper and wider understanding about the discipline.

About my college education: In the undergraduate level, the challenging subjects are those coming from the professional education subjects since it is the application of the educational pedagogies in the actual learning environment.
Passing the licensure examination is somehow difficult but I think I was able to learn the things that I should know.

My current job: Now, I am a Senior High School Teacher.
I was an Assistant Professor in the previous university where I worked with. I also taught in the Junior High School.

Am I using what I learned in college: Yes but when you go in the field, you will fully understand the application of various educational principles, philosophies and theories of learning.

About my college education: It prepares one to be fully equipped in the teaching profession. Getting a degree is no easy though, but enjoying and inclining every activity to your interests will always make things enjoyable.

Technically, basic skills are necessary and important in the teaching profession. However, you should have stand out skills in the English language, reading, and speaking, relationship to people and patience.

My current job: Currently practicing my profession as an English Teacher in Thailand

Am I using what I learned in college: Yes, the attitude that was inculcated are the most important. Other things I've learned are just a plus. I am currently using patience, positive attitude, and interpersonal skills.

How long did it take to find a job: Less than 3 months. This is because I have to refuse some job offers. It was not a real problem.

Do I recommend studying BSEd in English: Of course. Teaching is the most noble profession. Employment is never a problem to those who have the right attitude. While teaching may not get you to the bed of roses, the fulfillment of sharing the knowledge and your students becoming good citizens of the world is good enough. Careers in the business worlds are more promising, teachers can easily get pass through this if they work hard. They normally have the attitude to make it to the top management anyway, leadership, positive attitude, willingness to help, and to grow further.

Salary depends on your workload and responsibilities. Being a teacher all your life may not get you rich, but no less than poor. If satisfied with that, go for it. If not, you can easily work your way to the realms of the business world.

Why did I choose BSEd in English: This was really not my first choice. The first one was Information technology. Unluckily, I got dropped from the university. But that did not stopped me from graduating. My mom, who is a teacher, encouraged me to get this course.

About my college education: Teaching students is not just about teaching. Teaching is a passion that you need to improve and practice. In order to graduate, you need to have and do everything that you can so that you can graduate on time and learn a lot. Exams are just bits of college life. There were times that I passed, and there are also times that I failed. But with persistence and determination, I had graduated and became a teacher.

My current job: I am currently a teacher in a public high school.

Am I using what I learned in college: Everything that I have learned in college was applied with my current job. I learned how to get along with high school students and that every time I see these guys, I would always think of how my teacher felt way back in high school.

How long did it take to find a job: After graduated, I took a 3 month review, and after passing the board exam, by March of 2012, I got hired by a public school in our place.

Do I recommend studying BSEd in English: Teachers are very in demand. Although the population of students taking the teaching profession is quite big, the demand is also big. If you are to go for a public school, the salary is indeed very big.

Why did I choose Secondary Education: To tell you honestly, education wasn’t the first course that I took up in college. I started my college life at Emilio Aguinaldo College in Dasmarinas Cavite under the course of Business Management. Just like most of us I guess, I really didn’t know what I really wanted back then. All I know is that I have to finish college with a course that is considered to be flexible and general so it’s going to be very easy for me to land a job. But as time goes by, I realize that being a business manager is not really what I wanted to be and I’m really having a difficult time imagining myself as one, and so I decided to shift to education. Since I was a kid, I remember that we always play a teacher student type of game where I always play the role of the teacher and my siblings are my students. I’m also a type of person who always talk about something, I love talking a lot especially with my friends. Actually, I was also a lector and commentator at our church, so talking in front of a large crowd

About my college education: The course education can be very boring if teaching is really not your thing. But for me, as teaching or talking in front of a lot of people is what really makes me alive. To be honest, my course and major Filipino is really not that difficult since it is my mother tongue and it is like going back to your early school days again. What is difficult is the part where you need to be on duty on some private or public school since you really don’t have much freedom in choosing the school where you want to conduct your practice. Another thing is the environment of the school, the faculty, and the students. This is the most challenging but fun moment of the course because this is the time where you need to prove to the attending observers, your professors, and yourself that you actually have what it takes to be a good teacher.

To be honest, it took me several times before I pass the license exam mainly because I refuse to attend a review school since I have a job. It is as if you are going to war without enough ammo or not having a concrete plan of attack. After failing twice, I decided to look for a good review school and after that, I nailed the exam. So for you aspiring teachers out there, don't feel to confident because you will never know what's going to came out from those papers. It is better to be prepared and sacrifice some extra time to study to prevent losing more time because you fail several times.

For the first couple of years, what you need is mostly the same set of skills and attitude that is also required in any other course like being hard working, ability to understand things easily, punctual, basically things that will make you pass all of your subject, just like I told you, the theoretical side of education is really not that difficult compared to economics, engineering, or nursing. If there are any special skills that you need in order to succeed in this course is that you need to be very attentive to details. Computing hundreds of quiz and test papers can be very stressful and might affect the accuracy of your computation, so you really need to stay attentive and alert. Another skill that is required in this course is a good pronunciation of words and vocabulary. Filipino language is a very deep language and if you don’t understand or can’t pronounce the uncommon Filipino words, it’s definitely a minus point. So for some people who have problems with their tongue, try to consider finding another course or else you will face a lot of humiliation from your students.

I believe that the most important aspect in this course, the thing that will make you survive is your attitude. How much do you love your career? How you treat your fellow education students, your future co-faculties, your future students, and your principal? Education involves a lot of interaction, and you need how to connect with other people effectively if you want to stay long in this field or else you will have a lot of enemy. Lastly, you need patience, and I mean a lot!

My current job: I’m currently working as a high school Filipino public teacher at Polo National High School in Valenzuela City.
As a high school Filipino teacher, my job is to teach the students how to speak and write the language properly and with correct grammar. I teach them the importance of our national language Filipino and why they should be proud of it. As a teacher, we are also required to give out short and long quizzes every now and then to test the comprehensiveness of the students. Aside from the quizzes, we are also required to make exams for quarterly examinations. Then we are also the one who will compute for their grades. Computing of grades is something that every teacher should know. Grades must be computed with diligence and caution since parents often rechecked this grades by themselves to see if the computations are correct and that their children receive the correct grade.

Am I using what I learned in college: Absolutely, since my course is education and we have a specific area of expertise or profession, all that we learned in college will be practical or will be used when we are already employed. This is actually the advantage of having a professional course or a course that requires a licensure exam. Unlike courses that don’t have licensure exams, their choices are very broad and wide. Well for some that is an advantage, but if you’re the type of person who doesn’t really know what he or she wants, it’s going to be quite difficult for you to choose where to apply.

Also the number of competitors or applicants for jobs that don’t require a license is much greater since fresh graduates from different courses may apply. For example there is an opening for a bank teller position. A finance, economics, or management graduate can apply for that specific posting since most banks require only that you are a business graduate. Well going back to what I have learned in college, those are pretty practical knowledge since we focus on how to understand different kind of personalities and to be honest this is a skill or knowledge that we really need in real life. We learned how to deal with different kind of scenarios and to be patient all the time. Being a teacher is practical when you have kids since you no longer need to hire a tutor for your kids.

Everything I do right now is in my curriculum in college. Basically the technical aspect of my course is being used every day like how to compute for grades, how to prepare for a new lesson, and a lot more. This is also one of the good things if your course requires a license since after graduation you know exactly what you will do on your first job. If you are a accountancy graduate and passed the CPA board exam, definitely you know that your first job will be accounting related and that is the same thing with teachers. The hardest part of being a teacher revolves on your personality and attitude and that is something you can’t learned from reading. You need to experience temper and anger in order for you to know how to control your patience, and I can say that my patience was tested several times during college. Trust me you will need a lot of patience when you are already teaching.

How long did it take to find a job: Even before I graduated in college, I started to look for potential schools where I can spend my few months before I take my LET exam. Then after a month I land my first job at Blessed Trinity in Las Piñas city.

To be honest, it’s not that easy to find a job if you’re not licensed yet since most schools are increasing the required qualifications. They say before that as long as you have good grades and no bad records, it is easy for you to get hired even though you’re not licensed yet especially in small private schools. Today, some schools not only required that you already have a license, they also require or at least preferred applicants who has Masteral degrees.

After several months in Blessed Trinity, I immediately look for another school that is near in our house since the transport time to Las Piñas is very long and traffic is so heavy. After a month I manage to transfer to Polo National High School in Valenzuela. For my second job, the hiring process was much easier maybe because I already have relevant experience. Experience is one of the most sought after qualification every school wants. The more the experience the better as long as you are gaining a lot of knowledge along the way. Still, perseverance is the key in finding your first job because honestly, nobody wants to hire a newbie or neophyte, but of course in the real world they need to hire the newly grads.

Do I recommend studying Secondary Education: I would definitely recommend this course if you have passion with public speaking, teaching, and influencing the youth to be better. Being a teacher they say is like a hero. A hero means that you give something even without asking anything in return. Because of that, I maybe not recommending this course if you are looking for a high paying job. Maybe you might consider go to business courses or engineering courses where math is the main subject since math really brings money. I’m not saying that the course education is not financially rewarding, because it is, but compared to some other courses like accountancy, engineering, or economics, maybe the salary grade here is a bit lower. Not to mention if you already have a family which forces you to look for a much higher paying career. Most of the teachers that I have met that has ten or more years of teaching experience told me that they stay longer because they can’t imagine their selves having a different job. Teaching is their passion and that is the main reason why they are still teaching right now even though some of them are really old already. Passion is a very important factor in education because if you are not passionate about teaching, you won’t stay long. I also wanted to point out the fact that the Philippines is having a scarcity for teachers. So maybe the love to your country can make you choose to take up education in college.

Employment wise, there is always a big demand when it comes to teachers because of the very limited supply we are able to produce every year. So this is actually a good opportunity for students who are considering taking this course as their chosen career.

Nonetheless, demand for teachers are still there because education is a necessity, the question is where is the demand? Most remote areas in the Philippines lack teachers mainly because of the location and the salary. But in urban areas like metro manila, there is still a good demand for teachers but you got to stay competitive. One thing is of course to pass the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET), another is to continue studying and get Masteral Degree or PhD.

In other countries like Canada, USA, European Countries, and many more, they prefer Filipino teachers because of it's English proficiency and good work ethics. I definitely recommend my course to upcoming college students since being a teacher is a very good career. But if you’re main career goal is to generate more money, then you should remember that in order to do that, you need to climb the ladder. And the ladder here is pretty much slippery because of politics, so you better consider that. Always remember that the demand for teachers will remain as long as education exists, so there is always be an opportunity for education students.

The salary of a public school teacher with full benefits is more than enough if you are single, no dependents, and don’t live beyond your means. But if you already have your own family or a dependent, it might not be sufficient to support all the needs of your family. Not to mention the type of and location of the school where you come from. If you work in a rural area, chances are the salary is much lower compared to the urban area since the cost of living in rural areas are much cheaper. The type of school is also a factor. If you are teaching at an exclusive school, expect to receive a pretty good amount of pay as compared if you are teaching at a small private school inside the town. Nonetheless, if you want to receive a pretty good amount of offer, make sure that you are prepared and make sure that you deserve it before you expect it. In other words, study hard and get good grades, make sure to impress the observers during your practice teaching, and prepare for your first interview first before you assume anything about the salary. But if you think you deserve to get a good salary, I advise you to prioritize teaching in a public school because that

Why did I choose BSEd in English: I was eager to learn more about English not just as a language, but as a medium of communication. I wanted to be good of translating words and able to comprehend the origin of such words.

About my college education: Most of our professors were kind and considerate, they tell us when will our quizzes and exam be. But others were also very strict specially our math prof, she would come inside the room and start a surprise long quiz. Because of that many of the students failed and hated it. Slowly I learned to be attentive, study in advance and be always punctual.

My current job: I am now a Technical Support Specialist (tier 2) at Convergys Davao. Having a great educational background in English helped me a lot with this kind of work.

Am I using what I learned in college: Studying in University of Mindanao has taught me that communication is really essential for human rapport. By talking and listening to people you can have a better understanding of them, and with that you earn their respect.

How long did it take to find a job: After graduating I had my first job as call center agent at Sutherland global services Inc. 3 months after graduating they called to me for interviewing and screening, luckily I was accepted.

Do I recommend studying BSEd in English: By being good in English many employments opportunities open for BSED English students. Some could be teachers, supervisors, and even private tutors for foreigners who want to be fluent and learn more about English. The salary level can’t be predicted, it would depend on what work you would have and where. I highly encourage people take this course.

Advice to people who are thinking of studying this course: I advice them to read lots of books and magazine (english to be exact). To be a great BSED English student, he/she must be very good in conversations, reporting, and debates. He/she must be very clear and fluent in English.

About my college education: It was difficult. You would come to understand that being a teacher is one of the most difficult things to do; but when you get to do what you really want, you would end up enjoying what you feel you are born to do. It was challenging in a way that you are dealing with different kinds of children and you need to understand them. You need to think of a way on how to make them learn from you.
The key to success is to take everything as a challenge from the God who loves you. In this way, whatever happens, you know that He will never let you down especially if you trust His plans because more than anyone He knows what's best for you. Almost every skill is needed in order to succeed in this course since a teacher should always be flexible; but most of all, what is important is to pray hard.

Why did I choose BSEd in Social Studies: One of my classmate in high school persuaded me to take this course. I can say it's "mind influence" that driven me into this. Besides, I love teaching so why not?

About my college education: Well, aside from geographies, ethics, cultures and history, the most important lesson I've learned is 'character' - in books and mine. Field trip was most difficult assignment for me because it's ripping off my wallet. In subjects, both English and Math were difficult, I suck in it... but it's okay, I love my major. 'Character' - you see all heroes were brave and were all past tense.'I'm using a figure of speech here'.... What I'm trying to say is sometimes wisdom is better than knowledge. So you must chose your best character and applied it in the real world.

As what I have observed almost all students taking up this course succeeded and there's no shifting because they find it hard. If you just listen well and make some extra effort like spending your free time on a library, exams won't do you any harm.. believe me. The basic is studying hard but I suggest that you put on more extra effort, not just settling down on what the professors had taught but you should explore more and always think that there is always beyond in everything. Persevere, be patient and think positively.

Am I using what I learned in college: Yes, really practical both academic and of course the attitude you establish. Patience in my very vocally naughty students....haha, positive thinking of all the negative feed backs. I give them the best teaching I could do and I never give up on them.

How long did it take to find a job: After passing the board and getting a licence. I became a trainee before I become stable, so, maybe 8 months.

Do I recommend studying BSEd in Social Studies: For employment, I'm sure nowadays, this course is in demand locally.

The salary is very good, in some private schools, you can be payed 10,000 a month for a stater and will be 16,000 later on.

Very interesting and fulfilling, lessons both academic and characters, you could apply in your everyday life.

Advice to people who are thinking of studying this course: This course will let you explore and uncover so many things, will let you know the untold stories and so many secrets in society. In fact, you will meet so many characters; heroes, heroines, villains and relate on their significant roles. So, if you would consider this course as your major priority, then, you should take the responsibility of loving and learning it's major concept and that is "learn from the past, present and future and don't give up on me!"......just keep going.. and success will be just a step away.

Why did I choose BSEd in Mathematics: I chose this course because Mathematics is something I've loved all my life. I know I'd be able to impart the knowledge I've gained and honed through all the years of my study to the students that I'll be meeting in the future.

About my college education: The course itself is very interesting and enjoyable. Future teachers get to understand how the education system and the learning process works according to theories and from personal experiences.

I think that the attitude/trait needed to succeed in this course is the love for three things: The love for the students, the love for the subject, and the love for lifelong learning.

The employment opportunities for teachers are currently huge especially with the introduction of K-12 program in our educational system. Several schools would be needing more man power with the addition of 3 levels (Kindergarten, 11th, and 12th grade) of mandatory education in the system.

The only downside of teaching is the Salary level, but it is not something to think about. Because as I said, Teaching is Public Service, money is not something you think about when you engage in teaching; the principal consideration you should take is the readiness to sacrifice something for the good of the community.

Advice to people who are thinking of studying this course: Just love the course and everything would just come together smoothly. Taking an education course is a service to the public, if they're not ready to serve the community, I would advise them not to take the course.

About my college education: This kind of course is quite difficult but interesting. It is because it requires one's full dedication to the program and implore oneself in the process. About my college education: Let me start by saying that ever since I was a little girl, I've always wanted to be a teacher; hence, choosing Education as my course is a realization of that dream. The four years that I spent finishing my degree is one great journey - a roller coaster ride for me. I got to feel all emotions; I had my share of both good and bad moments. There were times when I felt victorious after finishing a lesson plan or getting through a demonstration teaching. There were times when I got afraid on whether I did my job well, especially when I was having my practicum. There were even moments when I tended to doubt whether I'm really capable of pursuing teaching as a career. But at the end of the day, the mere thought of being able to shape someone else's future in my hands brought unsurpassed joy and fulfillment in my heart. Seeing your students learn from you and finding out that you manage to bring a difference in their life is more than enough compensation for sleepless nights and tedious preparations of lesson plans and visual aids.

Teaching requires a lot of heart and passion. In my case, I almost gave up, but I did not because I know how noble the path I've taken is. More than extensive knowledge of the subject that you're going to teach, more than being adept with the various teaching strategies, being a teacher requires a lot of hard work, patience, patience, and patience especially if you encounter "problematic" students, problem solving skills, creativity and resourcefulness, interpersonal skills to be able to reach out to your students and colleagues, and determination. Unless you're really passionate about teaching, you will not become an efficient teacher.

In terms of employment opportunities, yes, there are lots of employment opportunities in this profession because as long as there are children born, we need teachers.

As what everybody is aware of, teaching, especially here in the Philippines, does not guarantee high salary. Teachers are actually poorly-compensated in the country. However, more than the money, teaching will give you a kind of satisfaction that is incomparable. Why did I choose BSEd in Science: I am a lover of Science and Life.

About my college education: I learned that this course really takes patience and determination because it is more on memorizing stuffs and as well as being practical since you have to conduct laboratory experiments. When taking up Biology, you must also have enough knowledge in Chemistry, Physics, and Statistics because such courses play vital role to the field.

Am I using what I learned in college: Yes, since I am currently handling Biology Lecture and Laboratory I could say that everything that I have learned in college is useful. SWU is able to balance everything starting from theoretical levels to laboratory experiments.

Why did I choose BSEd in English: Teaching has always been my dream.

About my college education: The difficult part was merely memorization of the names and dates with regard to literature since I think those are not used in real life scenarios. The most enjoyable and interesting ones are the writing part and grammar (though grammar was not given much priority in our school, or I should say hasn't been given... Cause until now, grammar hasn't been taught thoroughly. In writing, students are given a chance to express their ideas.

My current job: Curriculum Developer/ Grammar Trainer - I basically write grammar books and train teachers intensive grammar. I also evaluate teachers and students and make exams and other materials.

Am I using what I learned in college: Not really. Because in college, we focused on literature, but of course since I teach English, I was able to use the language itself.

How long did it take to find a job: As soon as I graduated (the next day after the graduation), I was able to start as a teacher first, then as a trainer and as my position now, in the same university

Do I recommend studying BSEd in English: There are a lot of opportunities for English majors since a lot of jobs require fluency in the said language, but like what I've said, money wise, it's not that good, but the fulfillment you feel whenever you share your knowledge is incomparable.
