moose is about the most accurate. I ride a street glide (FLHX) just 'upgraded' from a Heritage (FLSTC). The deal about the bags is correct. You get the sport-pak on the Electa Glide and not on the Street Glide. But, if you were so inclined, you can add it on to the bike.

In terms of chasis and engine the two bikes are identical. Air adjust ride, tight rake and fork attached fairing. However, the windshield on the Electra Glide is probably a little more then twice as high as the Street Glide. Both have the 103. It's a sweet engine with a ton of torque. Very noticeable difference from the 96.

Beyond the tour-pak, the difference comes in the trim. The Electra Glide actually has much more chrome. Check out the HD website. There's a ton of trim on the front fender and a running light. There's also a bunch of chrome on the rear bags. Also, the Electra Glide has 'passing lights' up front. (The two clear lights on either side of the main headlight) and the directionals drop from there. Similar to the look on the Road King or Heritage. The rear ends are also a litte different with the Street Glide have a little 'sleeker' look. IMHO

So, ride-wise, the bikes will be nearly identical. They are both big comfortable bikes. The extra windshield on the Electra Glide will make a big difference in keeping the wind down and rain off of you. I'm going to be adding a little more windshield to the Street Glide. But not as much as the Electra Glide. I added the mounting package that would allow me to add a sport-pak if I wanted to. I chose a removable luggage rack to add when I need to carry a bunch of extra crap, and a removable backrest that is also rarely on the bike.

Bottom line is that the Street Glide is the stripped down model in the HD touring family. Either bike will leave you with a huge smile and an empty wallet. Choose your style and write a big check. You will not be disappointed.
