His oldest brother, James Vincenzo Capone, left home at 16, joined the military, served in World War I. Changed his name to Richard Hart and he was hired by the U.S. Indian Service to try to keep alcohol off the Indian reservations.

In 1918 Al Capone was involved in a bar fight over a girl with hoodlum Frank Galluccio. Gallucio scarred Capone's face and he picked up his moniker - 'Scarface'.

Despite all of the things that he is said to have been engaged in, if you were handed a business card by Al Capone, it would have said that he was a used furniture dealer.

What did Al Capone do for a living?

How did Al Capone start?

In 1919, Capone left New York City for Chicago at the invitation of Johnny Torrio, who was imported by crime boss James "Big Jim" Colosimo as an enforcer. Capone began in Chicago as a bouncer in a brothel, where is thought the most likely way for him to have contracted syphilis.
