Water under crisper drawers in frigidaire refrigerator

  • #1

Hello,

We have a 7-year old Frigidaire FRT21KS5A (freezer on top, no ice maker or connected water supply) refrigerator that has suddenly started to collect water under the crispers. I toweled up the water last night and by late this morning a substantial amount was there again.

Yesterday I looked for leaks, or signs of water running down the back or sides, and saw no sign of that; but I've noticed that there seems to be more moisture on inside surfaces (e.g. on containers, shelves, etc.) than I remember used to be the case.

I also just checked a few moments ago and saw a trail of water droplets down the inside back of the fridge running to the bottom now, and just found some water on the top shelf. I also just noticed some water dripping very slowly now from the back of the top console (i.e. behind where the light bulb is located) where there is some plastic tubing and white styrofoam visible. I wish I could be more specific but I don't know the actual terminology for what I'm looking at.

When I went to the Frigidaire site (as noted on a post or two that I found), it suggested I call to schedule a service call for a part replacement. Could this build-up be due to the need for a replacement ferrule seen at the URL below?

I'm not sure if this part is right for our model, or if this might be caused by something else. Any help would be very greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

First check your defrost drain line that runs from the back of your console#17 inside the refrigerator section here: 07-Shelves parts for Frigidaire FRT21KS5AQ3 - AppliancePartsPros.com

Take the #58 console screws out, there will be 4, two on each side, then the console#17 will drop down, then you can check the drain hole, were the back console nipple goes into.

You can flush that drain line with air pressure or get something to run down it.

That ferrule part you linked to, is just for when some water drips on the top shelf, but the remainder goes down the drain line, from what your saying it sounds like all the drain water is going to the bottom of your refrigerator under the crisper's.

Let us know what you find.

OK ...

One quick question: is the drain line that needs air pressure applied to it the clear plastic tubing that I see, or is it the channel behind the black ring (the nipple you mentioned?) at the back of the refrigerator?

Thanks again for your help.

It should be the drain hole that you see on the inside back wall of your refrigerator were that nipple goes into.

Excellent! That makes sense. Thanks, Jake.

I'll report back with the results as soon as I can.

Take care.

Hi,

The defrost drain hole is in the back bottom inside the freezer after you remove the back panel inside your freezer, underneath the evaporator coil, de-ice it and run something through it.

I use a evaporator cooler spider snake: http://www.azpartsmaster.com/Products/Cooler-Spider-Snake__CLR4690.aspx

They are used basically in Arizona to clean out the water pump tubes that run to the cooler pads.

I don't know if they would sell them in your area, but if you go to your local hardware store, they should have something similar to run down your drain to clean it completely out.

But first you have to melt all the ice with a hair dryer/hot water from that drain hole.

Take off the back panel#10 here: 05-Cabinet parts for Frigidaire FRT21H7ASB3 - AppliancePartsPros.com

Then you can get access to that drain hole underneath the evaporator coils.

Let us know how it goes.

Where is the defrost drain on a Frigidaire refrigerator?

Where is the defrost drain on a Frigidaire refrigerator? Most are located behind the refrigerator's rear panel, near the evaporator coils. Unplug the refrigerator, unscrew the rear panel and use a turkey baster to flush the tube with hot water, breaking up icy clogs.

Why is there water under my vegetable drawer?

The most common reason for standing water in your refrigerator is because there is something wrong with the defrost drain tube. When the defrost runs, it melts excess frost off the evaporator so it doesn't build up.
