I had been waiting to watch Season 6 of Rick And Morty for the past few months, and it’s finally on Netflix!

I was excited and planned to binge all the episodes over the weekend.

I was ready with my snacks and eager to watch the show when suddenly my Vizio TV disconnected from the internet.

I checked my internet connection, but it was working perfectly fine on my iPhone.

After looking through a few forums and Vizio’s support pages, I determined why my TV wasn’t staying connected to the router.

Your Vizio TV can stop connecting to the Wi-Fi because of a communication disturbance between the router and Vizio TV. To fix the problem, you need to quickly check the TV’s Wi-Fi adapter or the router’s security settings.

Vizio connected to wifi but not working

Your Vizio TV may get disconnected from the Wi-Fi network for various reasons.

Sometimes it can disconnect if the TV hasn’t been used for a while, but in some instances, it might disconnect while watching content.

Here are some things to keep in mind while troubleshooting your network and TV.

Your Internet Connection Is Down

The fact that there is no Wi-Fi network for your Vizio smart TV to connect to in the first place is the primary issue that might result in the device’s inability to establish a connection to the specified network.

To put it another way, your internet connection is down.

As mentioned before, you may verify this by doing an Internet speed test on one of your other devices.

Make sure you test it on a device linked to a wireless network rather than a wired one to be safe (this will be important for the next common cause).

Wi-Fi Adapter For Your TV Has Stopped Working

If the internet works on other devices but not on the Vizio TV, the problem is most likely with the Wi-Fi adapter that comes with the television.

If this is the situation, there is still a way to connect the TV to a wired network by running an Ethernet connection between the TV and the router; however, you may need to replace the adapter.

Security Settings Of The Router

It is possible that your Vizio TV’s inability to connect to Wi-Fi is not the result of a problem with the TV itself but rather the attached router to it.

Ensure that your router’s security settings are configured to use the WPA-PSK (TKIP) encryption protocol.

Unsatisfactory Rate Of Communication Between The Router And The TV

Last but not least, there is a possibility that there is an issue with the connection between your router and TV, which is the root cause of the TV’s inability to connect to Wi-Fi.

DHCP is the abbreviation for the Data Host Control Mechanism, which is the protocol that allows these two devices to connect and exchange data packets (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol).

When you go to Home > Network > Manual Setup > DHCP > Toggle DHCP “on,” you will be able to check to see if it is activated.

Make Sure That Your Television Is Linked To The Wireless Network (Wi-Fi)

Although technology is wonderful, it is not without its flaws.

Because of this, even the most cutting-edge devices still risk developing software errors or glitches.

So, if there is a problem with your TV, some settings may have been altered on their own, including your Wi-Fi settings.

  • Check to see whether your TV is still linked to the wireless network.
  • Select the menu on the Vizio remote control.
  • Proceed to the Network option when you have done so.
  • Verify that your TV is linked to a network. In that case, choose the network you are connected to at home and log in.

Power Cycle Your Vizio TV

Technical gadgets can have hiccups and faults in their operating systems.

And although they only result in very modest problems for your device, these minor issues can snowball into far more significant ones over time.

The good news is that your television can easily fix errors and malfunctions.

As you can see, all that is required of you is to restart your device. Power cycling is shutting off your gadget entirely and turning it back on again.

You may do this by momentarily disconnecting your gadget from the power outlet it is attached to.

  • Remove it from its connection to the power source.
  • Hold the ” Power ” button on your TV for a full minute.
  • Wait for 1 minute.
  • Reconnect your television to the power socket on the wall.
  • Switch it on.
  • Examine the situation to see whether the issue has been resolved now.

Restart Your Router

Vizio connected to wifi but not working

Your TV is not the only electronic device that has the potential to malfunction or have some other kind of issue.

Routers may also get stressed out by the jobs they need to do, especially if many devices are connected to their network.

Following this, the next step that you need to do is to reboot the Wi-Fi router that you are using for it to be once again compatible with a quick and updated system.

It is important to note that most routers do not feature a button specifically designated for restarting or resetting the device.

  • To restart your router’s power supply, step one is to unplug its power cable. You may do this from the outlet or the device attached to your router.
  • If your router has a backup battery, remove the battery. Then, you should return it to the device after ten seconds.
  • Wait for 1 minute.
  • Reconnect your router to the power supply it normally uses. And then, wait for all of the lights that are shown on your router to become green.

You should contact your Internet service provider if any LEDs have turned red or yellow.

Determine How Fast Your Internet Connection Is

It isn’t sufficient to only have a working Internet connection to support your Vizio TV.

If your home network is too sluggish, your television will not allow you to connect to it.

The applications installed on your mobile device each have their own minimal needs for the amount of bandwidth available to them through the internet.

And if the speed of your Wi-Fi falls below their criteria, even when you are connected to a working network, your programs still won’t load properly.

Here are the recommended network speeds for some of the popular streaming services.

Streaming Service Recommended Network Speed
Hulu 8 Mbps
Netflix 5 Mbps
Disney Plus 5.05 Mbps
Youtube TV 7 Mbps
Amazon Prime 5 Mbps

If you want to stream content smoothly from applications like Disney Plus, you’ll need an Internet connection speed of at least 5 Mbps.

However, to use all of them, the speed of your Wi-Fi connection must be at least 8 Mbps.

That is the target number that you should aim for.

  • Determine the speed of your Wi-Fi connection
  • Get a computer or a phone ready.
  • Join it to the Wi-Fi network that your TV is utilizing.
  • Launch a browser on your device, any browser.
  • Go to the speedtest.net website.
  • To proceed, click the GO button located in the page’s center.

You should be ready if your Wi-Fi speed is at least 8 Mbps.

However, if your speed is lower, you must follow the next section.

Make Sure The DHCP Settings On Your Vizio TV Are Turned On

There is an option on Vizio televisions known as the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP).

It indicates to the Wi-Fi network that your TV is a distinct piece of equipment. Each device that connects to your Wi-Fi gets a unique IP address.

You might think of them as identification cards for your various electronic devices.

And as you are aware, each individual needs to own their unique identification.

Now, in the same vein as that, gadgets need their very own special IP address.

Simply because if two or more devices are utilizing the same one, they will not be able to use the connection to the internet.

In light of this, the easiest method to ensure your Vizio TV has its unique IP address is to follow the given procedure.

  • Enable the DHCP settings on your Vizio TV by doing the following:
  • Switch on the television.
  • Select “Home” from the menu on your remote control.
  • Make sure that you choose network> Manual Setup.
  • Toggle the DHCP section to the ON position.
  • Turn it off and back on if it has already been activated.

Make Sure Your Gateway Is Set To WPA-PSK (TKIP)

Encryption may be thought of as the “locks” used on your Wi-Fi Network, and in the same way, some locks are simpler to use than others.

The usage of some encryptions on Vizio TVs is also simpler than the use of others.

In light of this, it is important to note that WPA-PSK (TKIP) encryption is recommended for use with Vizio TVs.

If you’re still having trouble connecting your gadget to your TV, it is recommended that you modify the gateway configuration on your router to use this encryption.

You can do this by contacting your internet service provider (ISP).

There is a potential danger to your network’s safety if you change the encryption on your router.

So, it would be best if you inquired with your Internet service provider about the benefits and drawbacks of using WPI-PSIK (TKIP) encryption.

Make Use Of An Ethernet Router

The Wi-Fi feature on your TV may be the source of the issue.

Use an ethernet cable to connect it to your network instead. The problem with the Internet connection on your TV may be resolved due to this.

This will also increase the network stability on your device.

To illustrate, ethernet cables provide a hardwired connection between your TV and the router so that you may access the internet.

Because of this, it is not susceptible to wireless interference from other devices in your home, such as:

  • Microwaves.
  • Mobile devices.
  • Speakers are equipped with Bluetooth technology.

The signals from these devices can interfere with the signals from your Wi-Fi.

If you connect your computer to the internet using an ethernet connection, however, you will never have this problem.

In addition to this benefit, wired connections provide your TV with a reduced level of delay.

  • Disconnect your TV from the wireless network.
  • Connect the Ethernet cable to your router by inserting one end of the line into one of its available ports.
  • Put the other end of the wire into the Ethernet port on the back of your television. Before you try to plug in the connections, make sure you hear a click.

Resetting Your TV To Factory Settings

Vizio connected to wifi but not working

If you can still not link your TV to the Wi-Fi network, you should attempt to do a factory reset on your TV.

Now, the procedure will wipe all of the data from your device, including but not limited to the following:

  • Custom settings.
  • Applications that have been set up.
  • Preferences and accounts that have been saved.

However, in the same vein, it will also eliminate any tenacious bugs or hiccups that are the source of this Wi-Fi issue.

Take careful note of your applications, login credentials, and the settings you’ve customized.

Performing a factory reset on your Vizio TV may be done in the following manner:

  • Switch on the television.
  • Make a selection by pressing the Menu button located on your remote control.
  • Select System from the list that appears.
  • Choose to Reset and Admin.
  • Select your options, and select “Clear Memory” (Factory default).

Some models may refer to this option as Reset TV to Factory Defaults. Avoid interacting with your TV while the factory settings are being restored.

When your TV finally starts up, you should give your TV’s Wi-Fi connection another go. The issue has likely been resolved.
