If you are an avid cruiser the chances are that you will have sailed out of one of the major Southern Florida cruise ports.

The biggest port is Miami, but Fort Lauderdale cruise port has a whole lot of options too.

Sailing from this area means that you not only have a huge choice of cruise ships and itineraries, but you also get to choose between Miami and Fort Lauderdale Airport.

You should always shop around to check which airport will give you the best deals and flights.

There can be a surprisingly significant difference in the prices between flying to the two different airports.

Port Everglades Cruise Port in Fort Lauderdale

Port Everglades official address is 1850 Eller Drive, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316.

Fort Lauderdale Airport is very close to the Port Everglades Fort Lauderdale cruise terminal. It is only about 3 miles distance between the two.

You would hope that there is a free shuttle to the cruise port from the airport, but unfortunately, there isn’t!

The easiest way is to get an Uber from the airport to the cruise port. This is such a short journey it will usually only cost you around $10 for up to 4 people.

If you are staying in Fort Lauderdale the night before your cruise (which we highly recommend) you should think about choosing a hotel which has a free airport shuttle.

If you are flying into Miami airport but boarding a cruise in Fort Lauderdale, one of the easiest ways to get to the port is by Uber.

The distance from Miami International Airport to Fort Lauderdale Cruise Port is around 28.5 miles if you take the shortest route. The journey takes around 40 minutes in light traffic but can take over an hour at busy times.

Anyone who has ever driven in the Miami area knows that traffic can be a nightmare. Always leave plenty of time between your scheduled flight arrival time and your cruise departure time, or you could be left on the port side waving your dream cruise ship goodbye!

We always suggest that you arrive at least the day before the cruise to make sure that you are not at risk of missing your cruise departure. It does happen – just don’t let it be you!

So you may want to book a hotel in Fort Lauderdale for the night before your cruise.

Make sure that you have downloaded the Uber App and set up your account before you board your flight. Then it is very easy to request an Uber once you have collected all your bags and are ready to walk out of Miami Airport.

Cruise Line Transfers from Miami Airport to Fort Lauderdale Cruise Port

The cruise lines do provide shuttles from Miami to the Fort Lauderdale Cruise Port but they are pretty expensive.

Carnival Cruise Lines has a shuttle which is $31.99 per person each way. You have to arrive at Miami airport no later than 1:00 PM on the day of your cruise. Carnival Cruise Transportation service is provided between 10:00 AM and 1:30 PM.

Obviously, this is a much more expensive way than to get an Uber from Miami Airport to Fort Lauderdale Cruise Port.

If you had 4 people taking an Uber the cost would be around $50. However, if you all took the Carnival Cruise Shuttle it would be $127.96. Two-way transfers for 4 would be a whopping $255.92. Therefore Uber is going to save you around $100 for the round trip for 4 people.
