Alabama

There are no registration discounts for senior vehicle owners in Alabama. 

Alaska

In Alaska, the DMV offers a registration fee and tax exemption for drivers who are at least 65 years old. 

You can apply this senior license plate discount on up to one vehicle. You must hold the title of the vehicle, and the vehicle must be one of the following:

  • A passenger car or truck.
  • A motor home.
  • A motorcycle. 
  • Non-commercial trailers. 

If you have multiple registered vehicles in your name, you should be able to choose which one the discount is applied to. 

Arizona

The Arizona MVD does not offer registration exemptions for senior drivers. 

Arkansas

There are no car registration discounts for seniors in Arkansas.

California

The California DMV does not offer license plate discounts for seniors. 

Colorado

There are no senior registration fee discounts offered by the Colorado DMV.

Connecticut

Connecticut DMV does not have special registration fees for senior drivers. 

Delaware

There are no license plate discounts for seniors offered by the DE DMV.

Florida

The Florida DHSMV does not offer special fees for elderly vehicle owners. 

Georgia

There are no license plate renewal discounts offered by the Georgia DOR.

Hawaii

The Hawaii DMV does not offer special registration fees for elderly drivers. 

Idaho

There are no special license plate fees for seniors in Idaho.

Illinois

The Illinois offers discounted license plate fees for resistance who qualify and apply for the Benefit Access program. 

For those that qualify, the discounted license plate fee is $24. 

The senior license plate discount applies to up to one vehicle per household per year, and can only be used for:

  • Passenger vehicles. 
  • B-trucks.
  • Disability plates.
  • Military plates.
  • RVs up to 8,000 lbs.

There are no discounted vehicle registration fees for elderly drivers in Michigan. 

Minnesota

Minnesota does not have special license plate fees for seniors.

Mississippi

There are not any special license plate fees for senior drivers in Mississippi.

Missouri

The Missouri DOR does not offer any discounted vehicle registration fees for seniors.

New York

After you have been approved for the Benefit Access Program through the Illinois Department on Aging, you will receive a letter from Secretary of State Jesse White. When you buy license plates or renew your license plate sticker, submit the letter to verify that you are eligible for the discounted rate of $24.

Can you get a discount on license plates in Illinois?

You will find the link to the Benefit Access Online Application on the right side of the page. If your Benefit Access Application is approved, the Illinois Secretary of State's office will allow you a license plate fee discount for one vehicle.

How old do you have to be to get a discount on license plates in Illinois?

If you are 65 years of age or older, or 16 years of age and totally disabled, you may be eligible for an income-based license plate discount through the Benefit Access Program of the Illinois Department on Aging.
