After being closed for 2 years due to the pandemic, Nam Seng Wanton Noodle has recently reopened in Toa Payoh North, with 92-year-old Mdm Leong Yuet Meng manning the stall. Their famous Singapore-style wanton noodles with lean char siew, hand-wrapped wonton, and QQ egg noodles remain at just $5, available in dry or soup versions. Super crispy, super sedap (delicious). This stall has earned themselves cult status for their crispy roti prata — crispy and golden on the outside while chewy and soft on the inside. The menu highlights include the plain prata at $1.20 each and the coin prata at $5 a set. Don’t forget to pair your order with their incredibly flavourful curries; have your pick from either mutton, fish or dhal. Sadly, Mr Mohgan passed away earlier this year. The humble min jiang kueh is an old-school treat; it’s a soft and chewy pancake, traditionally filled with peanuts or red bean, but more stores are adding fun twists like using orh nee and black sesame instead. The Pantree is one of them; a min jiang kueh cafe that has them both sweet and savoury, with over 20 different flavours to choose from. Located in Marina One, this breakfast spot would definitely be convenient for those working in the CBD area.

Maybe you prefer a fuller meal for breakfast, and Bricklane delivers just that. The newest kick on the (Joo Chiat) block, Joo Chiat Càphê is a Muslim-friendly establishment putting their own spin on the Vietnamese staple, banh mi. You can’t go wrong with the Classic Chicken Cold Cut with Homemade Chicken Pate ($5.80), or try out their best-seller, the Honey-glazed Grilled Chicken Thigh with Homemade Chicken Pate ($6.50) that’s sweet and loaded with an abundance of coriander.
