It's a midsize car that has a V8 and a 4 speed automatic transmission. The Monte Carlo has large cargo capacity and can seat up to 5 passengers. The 303 horsepower V8 delivers plenty of torque off the line but the torque steer can be a bit much. With the DOD technology, the Monte Carlo is able to deliver up to 27 miles on the highway and up to 18 in the city. This is the car for someone who knows how to handle a front wheel drive and doesn't want the every day sports car. I was able to drift the car around a corner when I took a turn to quickly, by accident. I like the fact that the Monte Carlo doesn't look like anything else on the road. Its got a very reliable 4th gen LS motor. Most of the engine parts are interchangeable with other LS based motors. There's plenty of cargo area and the leather seats are a nice touch. The interior is not cheaply made as our other, comparable midsize cars and there are no unusual noises. The 4T65E transmission is very unreliable. They are rated for a maximum of 300 ft/lbs of torque and are very prone to breaking input shafts. The front suspension severely limits the tire size, so its hard to get a good launch off the line with such small tires. The aftermarket support is pretty poor but they're are some private vendors that offer decent aftermarket products. Even though the DOD system offers respectable gas mileage it can be the cause of oil burning. 2014 Chevrolet Monte Carlo - A good old fashioned muscle car.The 2014 Monte Carlo SS is a very powerful car. It looks like an ordinary sedan with a roomy trunk and a spacious interior. It has a 6.2 liter v-8 motor and I would say it's a bit much for the size of the vehicle. Dodge has the Charger and Ford has the Taurus SHO but, the Monte doesn't appear to be a muscle car until you drive it. I love the power merging is never an issue, passing while going uphill is no sweat. The gas mileage is what you would expect terrible around town and great on the highway. I think I was trying to relive my youth by purchasing this vehicle. It's fun and comfortable and powerful. The interior is roomy but with only two doors it can be awkward getting in and out of the back seat. The truck is large and can hold luggage for four adults easily. I enjoy the veh... (more) I asked my daughter to get her brother from the bus stop about a month after I bought the Monte. When she came back my son was teasing her without mercy because she accidentally skidded away from the bus stop and turned too quickly into our driveway. My daughter has never driven anything but a 4 cylinder. What a difference. Power. Spacious inside. Large trunk. Doesn't look like a muscle car. The lack of rear doors. The gas mileage around town.
