USING YOUR WASHING MACHINE

OPTIONS

Your washing machine features several additional cycle

options that customize cycles to meet your individual needs.

SOAK

This option provides a 15-180 minute presoak prior to the

start of the selected cycle. Touch the Soak button to select

the desired soak time from the popup menu. Use the Soak

option to presoak garments to help remove difficult spots

or stains on fabrics. At the end of the presoak time, the

selected cycle will begin with the same water used for the

soak.

STAIN CARE ™

Use this option for heavily soiled loads that need improved

stain treatment. When STAIN CARE is selected, the wash

cycle will begin with warm water to help prevent the setting

of certain types of stains. Then, as the cycle progresses,

hot water will be added to gradually increase the water

temperature to help remove stains that require treatment at

higher temperatures.

NOTE

y Best results are obtained with small loads (less than 6

lbs.)

COLD WASH ™

This option saves energy by using cooler water while

increasing the wash and rinse times to maintain wash

performance. Cold Wash is not available in Sanitary, Bright

White, Tub Clean, and Rinse & Spin.

NOTE

y Cold Wash is not available with Stain Care.

EXTRA RINSE

This option will add one or two extra rinses to the selected

cycle.

Touch the Extra Rinse button to select the desired number

of additional rinses from the popup menu. Use this option to

help ensure the removal of detergent or bleach residue from

fabrics. Liquid fabric softener, if used, is always dispensed in

the final rinse.

NOTE

y You cannot add extra rinses to the Drain & Spin cycle.

Select this option to add extra water to the wash and rinse

cycles. This option is especially useful for extra large or

bulky items. Once the washer has stopped filling, touch the

Pause button to pause the cycle. Touch the Change Settings

button, then select Water Plus. Touch the Start button to

resume the cycle.

NOTE

y If the machine reaches its maximum water level, Water

Plus will have no effect.

y You cannot select the Water Plus option in the Sanitary,

Bulky/Bedding and Tub Clean cycles.

To use the Water Plus function:

1. Pause the washer during the wash or rinse cycle once the

washer has stopped filling. (Water Plus is not available

during the spin cycle.)

2. Touch the Change Settings button.

3. Select Water Plus from the Cycle Settings screen.

4. Touch the Start button to resume the cycle.

FABRIC SOFTENER

Fabric softener is dispensed in the final rinse. This washer

is designed to save rinse water by using a jet spray rinse

system (Smart Rinse™) in COTTON/NORMAL and HEAVY

DUTY cycles. If you want to use fabric softener with either

of these cycles, touch the Fabric Softener button to change

the final rinse to a regular rinse. Although the softener will still

be dispensed without selecting FABRIC SOFTENER during

a spray rinse, failure to select either option will result in poor

fabric softener performance.

CUSTOM CYCLE

CUSTOM CYCLE allows you to store a cycle that you have

customized for your specific needs. This allows you to save

your favorite temperature, spin speed, soil level, and other

options for a cycle, and then recall them at the touch of a

button. A maximum of five custom cycles can be saved and

can be selected from the Custom Cycles screen.

To save a Custom Cycle:

1. Touch the POWER button to turn on the washer.

2. Select the desired cycle that you would like to customize.

3. Use the CYCLE MODIFIERS and OPTIONS to customize

the cycle .

4. Touch the Save Cycle button to save your custom cycle.

We hear a lot of concerns about the low water level on LG’s top-loading washers. Many new product owners wonder how a washing machine with NO AGITATOR & VERY LOW WATER LEVELS can actually clean their clothes.

This resource will help answer some of the most common questions about how to use the LG top loader washing machine.

How to Use an LG Top Load Washing Machine

The first step to learning how to use an LG top loader washing machine is to get rid of any preconceived notions about how a washer should work. Seriously!

NOTE: If you think that a full tub of water and an entire cup of soap is the best way to clean clothes, then don’t skip the first section about how LG top-loading washers work.

Follow these guidelines to learn how to operate your LG washer:

How LG Top Load Washers Work

It’s important to understand how your LG washer works, especially if you’ve never used a washing machine without an agitator. Understanding how your machine operates will save you from a lot of confusion.

Let’s take a look inside!

As soon as you open the lid to your new LG top load washer, you’ll notice that there is no agitator. Instead, LG’s HE top loaders use a high efficiency impeller at the base of the washer drum.

LG’s 6 Motion Direct Drive Technology moves the wash drum in multiple directions depending on the selected wash cycle.

This technology makes LG’s top load washer gentler on clothes than conventional washers all while cutting energy costs and water consumption.

Is there enough water in my LG top load washer?

Consumers who’ve never used a top loading washer with direct drive technology are likely to have concerns about water level when making the switch.

Conventional washing machine tubs will fill nearly to the top with water. HE Top Loaders with Direct Drive Technology, on the other hand, do NOT fill with water. This may leave you wondering, “Is my washer filling up with enough water to clean my clothes?”

Generally, the answer is YES!

Your LG top load washer is designed to use less water. The machine’s wash cycle uses agitating motions with specifically timed water jets to deep clean clothing. This means that the tub does not need to fill with water to clean the clothes properly.

Are my clothes getting clean enough?

Under typical conditions, your clothes are getting clean enough with the lower water level setting. There are a few situations where you may want to change the washer settings to accommodate heavily soiled fabrics:

Washing cloth diapers or fabrics soiled with pet urine: For clothes that are soiled with any material you want to completely rinse away (like urine), we recommend running two separate wash cycles. The 1st cycle will rinse away soil; the 2nd cycle will clean the fabrics.

  • Step 1: Run the fabrics through the Speed Cycle to rinse away urine and/or other heavy soil.
  • Step 2: Run a second cycle of your choice to clean the clothes.

Stains that require soaking. If you have a heavily soiled load, use the LG Prewash setting. You can also choose one of the special wash cycles including Deep Wash or Sanitary for, especially dirty loads.

Heavy fabrics. Heavier fabrics can be washed using the Heavy Duty or Bedding settings. This will ensure enough water is added to clean thicker and bulkier fabrics.

How to Add More Water to LG Top Load Washer

OK, you get it! LG top load washers don’t fill up with water. But, what do you do when you want to fill the tub with more water?

Most LG top load washers have a “Water Plus” button that will allow you to increase the water level of the load.

Under normal operation, this feature won’t be necessary.

What Kind of Laundry Detergent Should I Use?

High efficiency (HE) detergents are specially formulated for HE washers. It is vital that you use HE Laundry Detergent!

Most laundry detergents these days are formulated for HE machines. Here are a few options on Amazon:

How to Load LG Top Load Washer

It’s important to load your LG washer correctly. We’ll take you through each step of the process:

  1. Check the pockets of your clothes and remove any loose items. Close all buttons and zippers to avoid tearing of other clothing.
  2. Separate loads based on color or fabrics.
  3. Load heavier items first so they’re at the bottom of the wash load.
  4. Fully load washer but avoid overloading so top can close with ease.
  5. Pour high efficiency detergent into the detergent dispenser using the amount specified in the detergent’s instructions.
  6. Press the Start/Pause button to start wash cycle. The washer will automatically calculate your load size.

Despite utilizing the latest technology and innovations, how to use an LG top loader washing machine is not especially difficult or complicated. What is water plus on LG washing machine?

Water Plus Use this option to add extra water to the wash cycle for better wash performance and stain treatment of large items. Note : If the washing machine reaches its maximum water level, the WATER PLUS button will have no effect. The Water Plus option can only be selected or deselected while the cycle is running.

Why does my LG washer not fill up with water?

If your inlet filters have not been cleaned recently, buildup could be blocking the flow of water causing the washer to fill slowly. Turn off the water taps and remove the inlet hoses from the machine. Look into the unit's hot and cold valves and carefully remove the filters.

What is water plus technology in washing machine?

The ActiveWater Plus feature uses built-in sensors to adjust the water capacity in the machine, basing it on the weight and fabric. This means you will only ever use the amount of water that you actually need.
