Jeep wont start check engine light

Without codes it is a guessing game. Did you turn the key on when reading the codes? If you did everything correctly it may be a bad ECU. What happens when you try to start it?

It doesn't do anything. We turned the key and all we get on is the lights on the dash

Did you ever figure out what was wrong? My 2016 Jeep Cherokee is doing the same exact thing. I push the button to start and it just blinks at me. Says there's an accessory open or whatever and then the check engine light and oil/battery light flash. I had AAA come out because I thought it was the battery but the battery is fine.

Any other solutions for this specific "flashing engine light and silence when trying to start" issue? dash lights come on, and all other electronics seem to work as expected with the ignition in the "on" position. It seems like it's something other than a misfire or timing belt, etc, since the engine doesn't turn over, nor does the starter engage.

If your Jeep won’t start, the check engine light could mean many things. The problem could be a catalytic converter, mass airflow sensor, or O2 sensor. There are several causes of check engine light, and a quick fix for the problem can often be done at home. In this article, we’ll cover the common causes and the best way to fix them. The check engine light can also mean many things, so make sure to read over the information thoroughly.

  • Symptoms of a faulty catalytic converter
  • Symptoms of a faulty starter

Symptoms of a faulty mass airflow sensor

There are several symptoms of a faulty mass airflow sensor in a Jeep that may cause your Jeep to have trouble starting. The check engine light may illuminate, indicating a problem. The mass airflow sensor must be clean to ensure that your Jeep’s engine is running at its optimal level. Using rubbing alcohol to clean the sensor is a simple way to fix this issue. You can also purchase a mass airflow sensor cleaner, which is more expensive, to spray it on the faulty mass airflow sensor.

To test the sensor’s operation, you must unplug its electrical connector and loosen all of the sensor’s mounting bolts. If the engine still won’t start, you must replace the sensor. However, if you don’t have any experience with car repair, you can visit forums dedicated to your vehicle’s make and model for more detailed information.

Symptoms of a faulty O2 sensor

If your Jeep won’t start, you may have a faulty O2 sensor. It’s an easy fix: look for a spark plug-looking part with a wire coming out of it in the exhaust system. Remove it by using a special tool or a liquid wrench. After you’ve removed it, apply anti-seize to the threads of the new O2 sensor.

Bad O2 sensors are one of the most common reasons your Jeep won’t start check engine light is on. Not only does this cause your check engine light to stay on, but it can also affect your engine’s fuel efficiency. Faulty O2 sensors can cause jerky movements, rough driving, and a lowered fuel efficiency. However, replacing an O2 sensor is a relatively simple task, even for those without experience in automobile repair. Installing a new O2 sensor is relatively inexpensive.

Another symptom of a faulty O2 sensor is the check engine light staying on. This warning light is triggered by a number of different problems, but one of the most common is a faulty O2 sensor. If your Jeep won’t start, you may need a repair technician or an auto mechanic. But you can also diagnose the issue yourself at home.

Symptoms of a faulty catalytic converter

A faulty catalytic converter can cause your Jeep’s check engine light to flash. The main function of this component is to break down the pollutants produced during the combustion process and convert them into less harmful gasses. If the catalytic converter fails to function properly, the vehicle’s gas mileage will decline. This, in turn, will cause your Jeep to use more fuel.

If your Jeep won’t start, you should take it to a reputable mechanic immediately. A faulty catalytic converter can cause the check engine light to flash and can result in serious damage to your vehicle. At Crown Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Greensboro, we offer a free multi-point inspection for your Jeep with any service. This inspection will pinpoint the underlying problem and give you a recommended course of action.

One of the signs of a faulty catalytic converter is an O2 sensor error. While this error will not stop the engine from starting, it will cause the car to run poorly as the ECU compensates for the readings from the O2 sensors. Typically, the catalytic converter has two sensors that monitor oxygen levels in the exhaust gas. The ECU then compares the readings to determine how efficient the converter is. If the sensors are worn or have any carbon buildup, it could be a sign of a faulty catalytic converter.

Symptoms of a faulty starter

A faulty starter can cause an unpleasant noise when you crank your Jeep. It may be a faulty starter motor or the battery itself is not charged enough to run the starter motor. If the starter does not turn over, the battery could be drained, or the electrical connections might be corroded and shorted. If this is the case, contact a mechanic to diagnose the issue.

The most common sign of a faulty starter is no action when you turn the key. This likely indicates a burned starter relay or motor. The problem could also be a failed alternator or dead battery. In this case, the starter circuit should open once the engine cranks. Additionally, grinding noises may indicate worn or welded contacts in the starter solenoid. A faulty starter should be replaced or checked at the first sign of a problem.

Why is my check engine light on and car wont start?

As a general rule, if the check engine light is on and the car won't start, this points to a problem with one of the following: the engine timing, inadequate fuel pressure, one or more faulty engine sensors, a blocked catalytic converter, or a problem with the engine ignition.

Why is my Jeep not starting but has power?

The most common causes for a Jeep failing to start despite its radio and lights working are issues relating to its battery or other cranking/start-up components, such as the ignition switch, starter, or spark plug. These pieces might be damaged, dirty, or corroded.
