How to turn off find my friends without them knowing reddit

hey all, i've been looking for an answer to this but have not been able to find anything more recent than 2018. i have an iphone xr operating on iOS 13.4. i am hoping to stop sharing my location with a couple of friends in my find my friends app, but i do not want them notified. as in, i do not want the "___ stopped sharing location with you" to show up in our messages. is this possible? i heard turning off the "share my location" in the find my friends app could possibly do this. i don't want to risk that if it ends up notifying everyone in my friends list. i mainly just want to hide my location from certain people without having to deal with the confrontation of them being notified that i stopped sharing with them!

I’m trying to surprise visit my parents for thanksgiving but of course we all have find my friends on. I’ve read contrasting things online about what sends a notification and what doesn’t. For example I’ve read that toggling “share my location” off will still send a notification to everyone following my location but other sources have said otherwise, so I don’t really know what’s true and I don’t want to risk it haha. All I want is for my location to show as “unavailable” for a short amount of time. What’s the truth?

I have a really strict mom that made me share locations through Find my Friends a long time ago, which i completely understood, however now I’m 18 and living my own life away at college but she still checks it and invades my privacy. I deleted the app and she got a notification saying i stopped sharing locations and she immediately called and started freaking out on me saying I clearly have something to hide. Thats not the case at all, I just want to be able to do my own thing without having my privacy invaded you know? I make my own money and take care of myself but this doesn’t really mean much to her and whenever i bring it up causes a huge problem with her. Its frustrating, I’ve been looking for a way to hide my location temporarily, maybe an hour or two, without notifying her of that at all. Does anyone know a method that would for sure keep me off the radar for a few hours but still allow me to use my phone freely while I’m out?
