How to change netgear wifi name and password

An service set identifier, or network name, is a unique, alphanumeric ID attached to a wireless local area network. The first time you set up your NETGEAR router, the device will assign to the network a default SSID such as "NETGEAR" or "wireless." To enable employees in your company to find your company's network -- and not be confused by other networks using a similar SSID -- access the router configuration page to create a personalized network name for your NETGEAR device.

  1. Open a Web browser and type "192.168.0.1" -- without quotes -- into the address bar.

  2. Press "Enter" to navigate to the NETGEAR configuration page. The address associated with the page varies depending on the model of router, so if the above address does not work, type "192.168.1.1" into the address bar and then press "Enter."

  3. Enter "admin" into the User Name field and "password" into the Password field. Click "OK" to log in.

  4. Select "Wireless Settings" from the left pane. Enter the new network name into the "Name (SSID)" field.

  5. Click "Apply" to change the SSID on the NETGEAR router.

The default password of your NETGEAR Wi-Fi Network is written under your Router. However, that is a collection of random alphabets and letters. Although it is a strong password and no one can guess it easily still, when you’re trying to connect to the network on a new device then it gets hard to remember that password. Therefore, it is better that you change the password of your NETGEAR Wi-Fi Network.

To change the NETGEAR Wi-Fi Password, follow these steps:

  1. Open your Internet Browser.
  2. In the address bar, type http://www.routerlogin.net. Alternatively, you can also type http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1.
  3. A login page will appear. Enter the router username and password in the given fields. (The default username is admin and the default password is password). If you forgot login details then learn How to factory reset NETGEAR Router.
  4. Click on Log In.
  5. Once logged in, click on the Wireless section.

  7. Click on Apply.

*Note: All the connected devices will be disconnected from the Wi-Fi Network and you will have to enter the new network password/key to connect to the network!
