What is the top speed of a 4 seater Can-Am?

The seemingly simple question “what is the top speed of a Can-Am Maverick X3?” has a rather complicated answer. For one, there are several versions of the Can-Am Maverick X3, each of which having its own top speed and idiosyncratic limitations. Second of all, the top speed of a 2-seater Can-Am Maverick X3 will be different than that of a 4-seater Can-Am Maverick X3 MAX. If your aim is to go as fast as possible, the Can-Am Maverick X3 XMR may not be the right machine for you. Due to the knobby tires, even the 195HP version of the stock XMR is limited to around 67 MPH. This is just an ECM speed governor, though, and there are a couple of ways to get around it.

On the 2020 Can-Am Maverick X3 XMR, you can simply disconnect the speed sensor. Although your top speeds won’t display correctly on the speedometer after doing this, using a GPS will prove that you’ve gone around the factory-imposed MPH limiter for faster top speeds by disconnecting the speed sensor.

Another way to remove the built-in speed limiter on a Maverick XMR is to find a willing participant within the service department of your local Can-Am dealership to flash the ECU. If they change the model number on the ECU to that of, say, an XRS, you can potentially reach top speeds of 90 MPH with RPMs in the range of 8,200. We’ve seen guys hit 93 MPH in a stock 2021 Can-Am Maverick X3 RR, and that pace drops down to around 89 MPH on the bigger X3 MAX RR. With four adults in a 2020 Maverick X3 MAX XRS RR, it’s possible to hit 93 MPH – 96 MPH if there’s a slight downward slope. While it is possible to reach triple-digit MPH numbers in a modified Maverick X3 RR, you’ll need to add a few things to your rig before passing the 99 MPH threshold becomes possible.

Can-Am vs Polaris?

RZR Turbo Vs. Maverick X3 – The release of the Maverick X3, a machine that boasts a triple-cylinder four-stroke engine, 20 inches of front- and rear-wheel travel, and an engine that flaunts 154 horsepower, caused a sensation in the world of utility terrain vehicles (UTVs).

Polaris, on the other hand, had no intention of giving up the fight. As a response to Can-challenge, Am’s the company developed a twin-cylinder, four-stroke engine that was capable of 168 horsepower. To add insult to injury, Polaris improved the travel rear suspension by making it stronger, the steering by making it quicker, and by making some additional much-needed upgrades in order to outpace the Maverick.

The question of which brand, Polaris or Can-Am, is quicker arises due to the similarities between the two in terms of suspension, engines, width, and price points. The Polaris XP comes equipped with a 925cc engine that is turbo-induced, parallel twin-cylinder, DOHC, electronically fuel-injected, and liquid-cooled.

  • Can-setup Am’s is not all that dissimilar to the XP’s, as it features a 900cc triple-cylinder turbo-induced four-stroke engine that is electronically fuel-injected and liquid-cooled, just like the XP’s.
  • Although they have an extremely similar make-up, the slight differences, combined with the differences in their bodies, cause them to behave differently depending on the context.

For example, even though it takes the XP Turbo longer to gain momentum once it’s moving, it can easily navigate rough terrain, whereas the Maverick X3 has a harder time doing so. The Maverick’s drivers needed to hit certain obstacles with more force than they normally would have in order to make it through, whereas the RZR’s drivers only needed to hit certain obstacles with the force that they normally would have.

  1. On the other hand, when tested on level ground, the X3 performed admirably and was able to outrun the Turbo towards the end of the range.
  2. The suspension of the Maverick X3 makes it clear that the vehicle was intended to travel at high speeds, which is also the case.
  3. Our test drivers were able to tell right away that the Maverick’s suspension is the undisputed winner of high-speed stretches.

They attribute this victory to the vehicle’s suspension travel, its low centre of gravity, and its longer wheelbase. Even though the Polaris is very capable when it comes to navigating whoop sections, the Maverick offers a ride that is more confident and smoother regardless of the length of the whoop sections.

On the other hand, the Polaris absorbs the shock and does not send you bouncing as much as the X3 does when you are driving over rough terrain with rocks or waves. Simply put, the Can-Am is superior to the other vehicle in terms of its performance at higher speeds, which makes it the more rapid of the two.

The Polaris, on the other hand, is more of an authentic all-terrain vehicle. The RZR is the superior choice if you are looking for a utility vehicle (UTV) that can handle any kind of terrain. Whether you are looking for a vehicle service, a replacement part, or other vehicle maintenance, the service team at Ridgeback Service Bodies have all your needs covered.

Can Am X3 miles per gallon?

Is a Side-by-Side for You? – When I asked my friend Walt Wagner, who owns a nationally known overlanding shop, why he’s a fan of the X3 (he owns the two-seater version), he promptly answered: “Those things are made to be insanely capable right off the lot.

They can also be driven hard all the time, and you don’t have to worry about abusing it.” Wagner owns a tricked-out overland Tacoma, which he’s driven on the country’s hardest trails. But he still purchased an X3 because it created a different experience for him and his family (the two-seater can be modified to have a third, smaller child seat between the two main seats.) Instead of taking his truck—which is also his daily driver—out on rough trails, it’s easier to just load up the X3 on a trailer.

His truck remains his primary adventure vehicle for large, multi-day camping trips, but the X3 is more convenient, and frankly more fun, on his half- or full-day excursions. Wagner’s situation is the best-case scenario, because he has both an overlanding truck and an X3.

Since I’ve been testing the side-by-side, friends have asked whether I’d recommend one instead of an overlanding build. The answer is tricky. For my family and I, the Sequoia overland build is still the better choice right now, because it’s set up for camping, which we all really enjoy. That said, I’ve already started saving for an X3 because I, too, would rather run day trips or tackle rough trails with one, and my kids have a blast in the open cockpit.

Additionally, Wagner plans to start outfitting X3’s and other side-by-sides for longer camping trips sometime soon. For someone who’s not ready to dive headfirst into overlanding but still wants to see the backcountry, tackle technical trails, and feel the exhilaration of a powerful engine and fine-tuned suspension, the X3 is the easy pick.

  1. This line of thinking is also true when it comes to cost.
  2. The X3 I’m testing costs an eye-watering $30,400, which is what you could easily pay for a new car.
  3. The least expensive version of the X3 costs $19,000, which is also a serious chunk of change (for the lower price point, you get a two-seater with less suspension travel, smaller tires, and a narrower stance).

But compare those prices to what you’d have to spend to buy a Tacoma or Jeep, and then the upgrades it’d require in an attempt to make it as fast or capable as an X3, and the benefits become clear—even after factoring in the cost of the trailer you need to haul the X3.

  1. Wagner says any build that comes close would cost two, three, or even four times more.
  2. When you consider that an X3 is perfect for a family (you can squeeze four kids and two adults into the four-seater with a quick seat swap ), the price makes even more sense.
  3. Finally, there are those who will balk at the noise and the gas.

I hear you. Engineless adventuring will continue to be important to me, too. But before you write off the X3, ponder this: It usually averages 12 to 16 miles per gallon, depending on how much you like to step on the gas.
