How much does it cost to replace a subaru transmission

Subaru vehicles are among the most reliable and ruggedly dependable cars, wagons and SUVs on the road, but even transmissions that have been engineered to survive years of rigorous use can develop problems or fail. Vancouver residents have been relying on these Japanese workhorses to get them out of tough spots since the brand was introduced to the United States in 1968, and they have been coming to All Transmissions & Clutches to take care of their Subaru transmission problems for almost as long.

Subaru Transmission Repair Shop

The symmetrical all-wheel-drive systems and boxer engines used by Subaru can be baffling to mechanics not familiar with them, but the ASE certified technicians at All Transmissions & Clutches have the training and experience needed to tackle even the most challenging jobs. They also have the specialized tools needed to work on complex all-wheel-drive systems and rebuild Subaru transmissions, and they could discover that what appear to be major problems are actually being caused by faulty sensors or defective solenoids. When major Subaru transmission problems are discovered, the technicians at All Transmission & Clutches are often able to repair them for as much as 70 percent less than a franchised dealer would charge for the same work.

I have a kid in college in Denver with a 1997 Outback Impreza AWD, 130K. Car went into a dealer (in a remote town) because of transmission noise and leaking fluid. Diagnosis from dealer: Leak is at the output shaft seal. When they pulled the drive shaft, the seal was melted, so the car has been running with low fluid and there is probably damage to the transfer case as well as the transmission. The dealer is quoting $2,500 to $3,000 for starters, depending on what they find. I am dealing with this long distance and would appreciate advice and wisdom. Here are a few questions:
1. I would think the transmission and transfer case could be repaired in the range of $2,000 to $2,500? Am I out to lunch on this?
2. Anyone have experience with independent transmission shops? Good idea, bad idea?
3. Anyone recommend a good independent Suby mechanic in Denver?
Thanks in advance for advice and help.

How much does it cost to fix a Subaru transmission?

On average, Subaru transmission replacements cost around 3,500. However, you may be able to score a lower price if you watch out for discounts and specials offered at your service center.

Is it worth replacing the transmission?

A brand-new transmission costs anything from $1,000 to $7,000+. Therefore, if the current worth of your vehicle ranges from $8,000 to $10,000, replacing the transmission will be worth it. But if your vehicle is under or within the transmission range, it won't make much sense to replace its transmission.

How much is a Subaru transmission?

A Subaru Outback transmission replacement can cost anywhere from $1,500 to $4,000. Grinding noises when switching gears is definitely a sign that something is going on with your transmission, so you'll want to take it to a mechanic soon.

Is it cheaper to fix a transmission or replace it?

A transmission replace is the most expensive option when fixing your transmission. In many cases you will hear this referred to as “re-manufactured.” Basically, the manufacturer will replace parts that have gone bad with modified parts.
