How to Measure for a Screen DoorYou may think all screen doors are made the same: a large rectangle that nestles into the existing exterior door frame. Unfortunately, no matter what type of screen or storm door you plan to install, you need to measure the space it will live in for years to come. Measure the door from the bottom left corner to the top right corner and then bottom right to top left corner. If the measurements are even slightly off, adjust the door or the jamb until the door frame is square. To get the door’s height, measure from the bottom of the sill to the underside of the top of the frame. The width needs to be measured in three places. From 6 inches from the top of the frame, measure across the door. Repeat this 6 inches from the bottom of the door frame. Finally, do this across the center of the door. After all that measuring and calculating, you will still need to adjust the numbers to account for clearance between the frame and the door. Subtract a quarter inch from each measurement for general clearance. This will ensure an excellent fit.
