Defense finance and accounting service employment verification

Current Federal Employees:

  • For your current agency, go to MyBiz+ and select “Request Employment Verification” under the “Key Services” tab.
  • Your current agency should also have your former agency information on file.

Former Federal Employees:

Special Investigators:

Personnel files for special investigations can be obtained by contacting the Defense Financial and Accounting Service (DFAS), Phone: 317-212-5048 (DSN: 699), Email:

  • For verbal employment verification from 2002 to present, call (317) 212-0454 (prompt 4).
  • For verbal employment verification prior to year 2002 contact the National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) at https://www.archives.gov/st-louis/civilian-personnel/

All requests for records and information must be submitted in writing by the former DoDEA employee to the National Personnel Records Center (NPRC). Each request must be hand signed (in cursive), dated (within the last year), identify the documents or information needed, and explain the purpose of your request. If specific documentation/forms need to be completed and provided to another party, the former DoDEA employee must specify in the written request authorizing NPRC to release the specified information.

Certain basic information needed to locate civilian personnel records and to answer the request, includes:

  • Full name used during Federal employment
  • Date of birth
  • Social Security Number (if applicable)
  • Name and location of employing Federal agency
  • Beginning and ending dates of Federal service
  • Complete return mailing address and/or authorized return fax number

Written requests may be mailed or faxed to: National Personnel Records Center, Annex 1411 Boulder Boulevard Valmeyer, IL 62295 Fax: 618-935-3014 Please note: NPRC cannot email documents due to privacy concerns. NPRC will mail or fax copies of available records as authorized by the requester.

EMPLOYMENT AND SALARY VERIFICATION FOR CURRENT AND FORMER EMPLOYEES

THIRD PARTY REQUESTORS

Lenders, Social Service Agency Representatives, Landlords, and others MUST work through the employee to obtain employment and/or salary verification information.

Employees MUST authorize release of this information via MyBiz+. A current Common Access Card is required. The information below is provided by the Defense Civilian Personnel Advisory Service (DCPAS).

Employment Verification (EV) is a Self Service My Biz tool allowing current DOD employees to email employment and/or salary information to an external organization (business, bank, credit union) or person directly from the Defense Civilian Personnel Data System (DCPDS) in a password-protected document via email. All you need is the recipient’s email address along with your work or personal email address to use as a confirmation and validation of your employment verification.

IMPORTANT: Third Party Requestors CANNOT use this system. It MUST be initiated and processed by the employee.

FORMER EMPLOYEES and SERVICEMEMBERS

  • Civilian and military retirees may use myPay, a Defense Finance and Accounting Service tool, to obtain a copy of their Retiree Account Statement.

  • Retired civilian employees may request service from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Retirement Office by phone or via OPM Services Online.
    Your 1099-R reflects both taxable Retired Pay and taxable Concurrent Retirement and Disability Pay.

  • Separated civilian employees (non-retirees) may request access to their Official Personnel files (after 120 days from Separation Date), either in person or electronically, from the National Personnel Records Center Federal Records Center Program.

  • ​Military servicemembers can refer requestors to the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) website for independent verification of service dates and/or to obtain a copy of their leave and earnings statement via myPay, a Defense Finance and Accounting Service tool.
