Crazy Horse, a beer created by Heileman for the Hornell Brewing Company Inc. of Brooklyn, New York, was released in 14 states, including Maryland, in March. Dr. Paul Polman, president of the American Academy of Family Physicians, expressed concern about the product’s youth appeal.

According to a lawyer for the estate, Christina Kirk-Kazhe of San Francisco, the Crazy Horse malt liquor was sold in 32 states by seven breweries. As a result, there were 32 blankets, 32 braids of sweet grass, 32 twists of tobacco, and seven thoroughbred horses.

The lawsuit was inherited by Stroh Brewery Company in 1996 after Heileman was purchased out of bankruptcy. After Heileman’s contract with Hornell expired, the company stopped making Crazy Horse Malt Liquor, but it continues to distribute the beer. The Crazy Horse lawsuit was settled in 1999 when Stroh sold its brewery assets.
