Hall of Fame Essay
2019
This year’s induction of the Zombies into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is at once a celebration and a culmination of one of the oddest and most convoluted careers in the history of popular music.
While not the first band to have two smash hits right out of the box, they may be the only group who proceeded to then fail miserably with their next ten singles over a three-year period before finally achieving immortality with an album, Odessey and Oracle (1968) and a single, “Time of the Season,” that were released only after they had broken up.
Their music moves me with its poignancy to tears, it reminds me of what it is to be alive
In 2021, The Go-Go's (Belinda Carlisle, Charlotte Caffey, Jane Wiedlin, Kathy Valentine and Gina Schock) were inducted into The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, and as a massive fan of the band, I was and remain delighted.
However, another of my favourite bands The Bangles (Susanna Hoffs, Vicki Peterson, Debbi Peterson and Michael Steele) have NOT yet been inducted into The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. I believe they truly deserve and have earned this honour. Perhaps in 2023 they may be nominated, and I believe they can win!
Vote For The Bangles In 2023
As a fan of inspirational women who write their own songs and play their own instruments who blaze a trail for new generations of women in music, I believe The Bangles induction, along with that of The Go-Go's, will inspire more young women to break new ground in music.
Please consider telling The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame that The Bangles need to be honoured here by VOTING for their inclusion.
