Acura tsx locked keys in car

Went to use the car this morning, car was locked with the keys sitting in the cup holder. I didn't think that could happen since the car will unlock if you have the keys in your pocket outside the car? Fortunately the dealer cut a key for me on the spot so I could get into the car. Guess I should have signed up for the enhanced Acura Link program.

Interesting, I've purposely tried to lock the car with the FOB in it, wouldn't do it.

I wonder if it has something to do with the automatic door lock setting. Will have to try that one(with the extra FOB outside of the car).

May be a software bug!

The car shouldn't be able to lock with the keys in the car. The trunk won't even close if your keys are in the trunk.

Interesting to know the reason why the doors locked.

Depending on how long you have owned your 2016, you may still have the trial period of the enhanced Acuralink service.
Auto-lock only works with Vehicle speed or a shift from P/Off
so it will only Lock when the car is moving or when shifting "out" of Park.

I will be interested to see what the service department says!

I'll look, but I was playing around with the settings the other day, found one that locks the doors within a period of time after you have left the car. I'm assuming "left the car" indicates the FOB is not in proximity, so it theory it shouldn't happen but that's the only explanation I could come up with.

ETA I think it's the "Security re-lock" feature, car isn't here so I can mess with it though.

Security re-lock happens when you unlock the car (presumably with the fob) but do not open the door for a period of time. I guess it is to protect against "but-unlocks."

How did the key get locked in there in the first place?

Where was the spare?

I guess I left them there last time I used it. My wife went into the car to get her sunglasses, she swears she didn't lock it afterwards. I'm going to play around with it, with the windows open to see if I can get it to happen again.

Possible Scenario

The security re-lock will lock the doors in the amount of time you specified if you unlock them either via key fob or the door handles, and you don't actually open a door.
It is possible your wife pushed the button to lock, but it unlocked due to the key fob being in the car, but then the security re-lock actually locked it. I never tried pushing the lock button with a fob in the car but if does cause lock and unlock action that could be it.

What would happen if you left a the fob in the car and the used the 2nd remote to lock the car.

I've been trying to get it to lock all day, when my wife gets home I'll try to lock it with her fob.

Its easy to do with the second Fob - just did it.

Placed Fob1 in center console. Couldn't lock the doors using the exterior button.
Fob2 locked it perfectly.
Keeping Fob2 away from the car, I then tried to open the doors - it wouldn't respond to my hand. So I had to use Fob2 to unlock and get Fob1 back.

Any chance a weak battery in the FOB could have resulted in this? I.e., it unlocked via the FOB and the FOB then "disappeared" as its battery went dead?

Possibly. But if the fob later can start the car, etc then it rules out the battery. And what locked the door to begin with? I dont think the external button works if the fob isn't in your pocket?

I put my fob in the car, locked it with fob 2 with no problem. Apparently my wife inadvertently hit the lock button on her fob. I learned not to leave my keys in the car. Now if only the door key fit in my wallet.

You probably could get the key to fit in your wallet. If you look closely at the key you will see that it has a roll pin. I'm sure if you punch that pin out that the flat part of the key would pop off. However, I'm not sure how much grip you would have to unlock the car with only a nub to hold on to.
